  • I found Cygwin to be FAR superior to putty! Plus, Cygwin has its own OpenSSH server, and an X server, (and a thousand other 'nix packages,) so you can use your Windows box a LOT more flexibly. Commented Oct 23, 2023 at 15:24
  • @Alex Using Putty instead of SSH for Windows was the key, in my experience. Thanks for pointing it out! I tried various things with SSH for Windows and couldn't get it to work. Now it works with Putty, thanks again. Commented Feb 7, 2024 at 21:36
