In the context of compilers and packages, "architecture" refers to the instruction set architecture (ISA) of the processor on which they are intended to run. I have no idea what an "operating system architecture" may be. For example, i386 (or i686) refers to 32-bit x86-compatible processors, amd64 refers to the 64-bit x86 instruction set, and armel means little-endian ARM. Commented Nov 18, 2017 at 16:24
