SOUL VIRTUES EXTRACTOR

Seven human souls. Seven virtues. This device has been designed to reveal which one suits you best.

Every answer is scored against all seven virtues at once. Some answers are mostly one thing and a little of another, and some also detract from other virtues.

There are no right or wrong answers, but being honest about one's flaws should provide more accurate results.

*Want to know more?

Every question adds or subtracts points from your total score. Neutral responses attribute no points, therefore answering neutrally is a way to skip a question.

At the end, your score is calculated for each virtue. 50% means neutrality to the virtue. Percentages higher or lower than that indicate how much of each virtue you identify with.

Of course, I am not claiming to know everything. Take everything written here with a pinch of salt, and feel free to provide feedback if you want this project to improve.

Answers aren't stored anywhere. Everything you do is stored locally on your device.

DETERMINATION
RED SOUL  ·  #FF0000

Despite how many times I fell, I always got back up.

What is determination?

Determination does not necessarily mean optimism or hopefulness, as they imply expecting things to work out. Determination doesn't require that. It's the part of a person that drives them to keep going even when everything seems to be for nothing.

It shows up as a specific kind of restlessness. You are hard to talk out of things. You have a sense of how a story is supposed to end and a physical difficulty accepting versions where it doesn't. People around you have probably described you as intense, or as someone who “doesn't let go,” and meant both as compliments and warnings.

Be that as it may, you're a driving force regardless of what you set your mind on. Being objective-focused and unwilling to compromise on your vision is admirable, but you should probably learn how to keep that drive under control.

The shadow of one's soul

Determination doesn't know when to give up. It will keep idealizing its objectives and desires without considering whether they're still achievable.

Its indifference to the means necessary to achieve those goals can leave an unhealthy Determined hurting themselves and/or those they care about in an effort to make the impossible possible.

When they do give up on something, the event is catastrophic - and is likely to send the Determined into a negative spiral until they can find something else to aim for.

Often confused with perseverance

DETERMINATION and PERSEVERANCE are often confused for one another, but the difference lies in where the energy points.
While DETERMINATION refuses every ending except the one it chose, PERSEVERANCE will look for different ways to achieve at least one of the results it was aiming for.

Of course, that doesn't mean one can't take from the other. Being so similar in behavior, the Determined and the Persevering often find each other to be fascinating: the former admires the endurance and planning skills of the latter, who in turn admires the Determined's desire for success.

How DETERMINATION pairs with other virtues

BRAVERY

Due to BRAVERY's drive to lead the charge, the Determined who have it as their secondary virtue usually end up diving headfirst into anything that makes them excited: be it watching a TV show or a newly discovered interest in crocheting, they will immediately invest their time and efforts into it - probably forgetting about important commitments in the meantime.

Regardless of what it is exactly that they want, they are a force to be reckoned with, and one that can hardly be controlled.

JUSTICE

Due to JUSTICE's want for fairness, the Determined who have it as their secondary virtue are often guided by its scales. If they think something is unjust, no matter how small, they will do all that is in their power to right that wrong.

Of course, being as difficult to sway as both virtues are, they can end up making things more troublesome in their quest to make them right.

KINDNESS

Due to KINDNESS' wish to help others, the Determined who have it as their secondary virtue often make it their personal quest to be there for anyone that needs them - especially if it's someone they care about.

While this is admirable, it can also end up being too much to bear for a single person, and this is even truer if the kind Determined has trouble accepting that not everyone can be helped, no matter how much they want to.

PATIENCE

Thanks to PATIENCE's willingness to wait for the right moment before striking, the Determined who have it as their secondary virtue are often dreamers: they know what they want, and are simply waiting for the occasion to arise. In the meantime, they'll keep being inside their own head thinking about their wishes.

Regardless, there is such a thing as too much day-dreaming. A Determined that forgets this might end up wishing for their desires to reach them on their own, forgetting to put in the work themselves.

INTEGRITY

The Determined with INTEGRITY as their secondary virtue are usually people who figured out who they wanted to become and never stopped chasing that ideal. They envision the best version of themselves and never stray from the path that leads there, refusing to take any and all shortcuts.

Of course, being so strong-willed has its weaknesses. They might end up conflating being successful (most often in the wealth department) or popular with being the best version of themselves, falling into difficult-to-break pipelines in the process.

PERSEVERANCE

The golden pair: PERSEVERANCE and DETERMINATION. Natural-born strategists, these people are an unstoppable force. Once they set their mind on something, there is close to nothing that can be done to stop them from achieving it.
These people often choose their paths and careers at a young age and refuse to give up on the dream they chose, and will settle for nothing else.

Sadly, they also have their weaknesses. If changing a Determined's mind is difficult, a secondary PERSEVERANCE can easily turn the unstoppable force into an immovable object.

BRAVERY
ORANGE SOUL  ·  #FCA600

Even with trembling in my legs, I refused to back down.

What is bravery?

Bravery is not the absence of fear; rather, it's the drive to keep moving in spite of it. Where others would give up when faced with a seemingly impossible challenge, it shines by leading the charge.

It tends to look like a willingness to be the first one to speak, the first one to make a choice, the first one to pursue its wishes.
Brave people are frequently the ones who make the gears of time turn: they'd much rather be hurt than sit idly by to avoid pain.

The shadow of one's soul

If not properly regulated, Bravery might turn into recklessness. The Brave should never let themselves stop feeling fear and uncertainty, as they are the only things preventing them from hurting themselves and the people around them.

Unfortunately, it's also the virtue most easily flattered. Tell a Brave they're afraid and they'll do almost anything to prove otherwise, which makes them the easiest of the virtues to steer.

Often confused with determination

While DETERMINATION measures the effort to reach their objectives in years, BRAVERY doesn't concern itself with things such as measuring in the first place.
Bravery takes the first step towards its objective and figures it out from there. Determination figures out its objective in detail, then takes the first step towards it.

This makes BRAVERY and DETERMINATION a very strong pair of primary and secondary virtues. While Bravery can make Determination move, Determination can teach Bravery what it is exactly that it's fighting for.

How BRAVERY pairs with other virtues

DETERMINATION

Thanks to DETERMINATION's ability to envision the goal, the Brave who have it as their secondary virtue usually end up diving headfirst into anything that makes them excited: be it watching a TV show or a newly discovered interest in crocheting, they will immediately invest their time and efforts into it - probably forgetting about important commitments in the meantime.

Regardless of what it is exactly that they want, they are a force to be reckoned with, and one that can hardly be controlled - be that a good or a bad thing.

JUSTICE

Driven by JUSTICE's desire for fairness, the Brave who have it as their secondary virtue often find themselves intervening in matters that shouldn't concern them before they've figured out what they mean to do.

While such a strong moral compass is admirable, it can also end up making the just Brave prone to anger, or even actively drag them into dangerous situations.

KINDNESS

Due to KINDNESS' wish to help others, the Brave who have it as their secondary virtue are usually making sure that the people they care about know just how much they would like to help - whether they ask for it or not.

These people will immediately intervene to share the burden of sorrow or to help figure out a solution to a problem, even before understanding if there's anything they can do in the first place.

PATIENCE

The balancing act, PATIENCE and BRAVERY. Where BRAVERY's shadow might lead to recklessness and impulsiveness, the patient BRAVE is able to keep themselves under control just enough to avoid doing something they might later regret.

On the other hand, the patient Brave might seem moody, or difficult to understand. Overall, this combination is not one that can easily be grasped from the outside.

INTEGRITY

Being so strongly anchored in their principles, the Brave with INTEGRITY as their secondary virtue will do anything to prove who they are: calling them dishonest or doubting their feelings is all but asking for their anger.

This internal compass can also be a great way for the integrous Brave to direct their efforts towards something that is worth fighting for.

PERSEVERANCE

The Brave who have PERSEVERANCE as their secondary virtue are the ones who start something and see it through to the end.
No matter how difficult the road may become, PERSEVERANCE will help them keep going where BRAVERY alone wouldn't, and BRAVERY will help them move when even the Persevering would be too scared.

As is the case with anything, though, an excess of conviction might lead the persevering Brave into difficult situations, often ones where facing fear might only dig further down.

JUSTICE
YELLOW SOUL  ·  #FFFF00

Despite the cruelty I endured, I never let myself be corrupted.

What is justice?

Justice is the ideal that fairness should come first: All animals are equal, none are more equal than others. Slights against yourself can sometimes be let go of; slights against someone who couldn't stop them, almost never.

It makes you the kind of person who will bring a wrongdoing to light no matter what, often at your own expense. Even in the face of consequences, though, it's uncommon for the Just to regret having done the right thing.

The shadow of one's soul

Justice is blind, and its guns easy to aim wrong. An unhealthy Justice may end up needing to be in the right no matter what, and find it difficult to tell fairness from vengeance.

Due to their inability to trust anyone's judgment over their own, they can end up becoming too stuck in their ways, or even vindictive.
A great deal of pain has been inflicted by people who would have sooner died than admit themselves wrong.

Often confused with integrity

Integrity and Justice have many things in common: both have a strong moral compass, both are hard to sway, and both concern themselves with building a framework of rules.
The main difference is who these rules are pointed at: Integrity will use them for itself with little concern for others, while Justice holds everyone to those same standards.

How JUSTICE pairs with other virtues

DETERMINATION

Due to DETERMINATION's ability to envision the goal, the Just who have it as their secondary virtue are often guided by a dream of fairness. If they think something is unjust, no matter how small, they will do all that is in their power to right that wrong.

Of course, being as difficult to sway as both virtues are, they can end up making things more troublesome in their quest to make them right.

BRAVERY

Driven by BRAVERY's eagerness to take the first step, the Just who have it as their secondary virtue often find themselves intervening in matters that shouldn't concern them before they've figured out what they mean to do.

While such a strong moral compass is admirable, it can also end up making the brave Just prone to anger, or even actively drag them into dangerous situations.

KINDNESS

A very strong pair, JUSTICE and KINDNESS both concern themselves with solving outward issues: if someone needs help, rest assured that the kind Just would never leave them to fend for themselves.

Of course, they will also not be willing to compromise on how to solve things; something which, depending on the circumstances, can prove to be either a blessing or a curse.

PATIENCE

Thanks to PATIENCE's willingness to wait for the perfect moment before making its move, the patient Just can figure out the best way to right a wrong regardless of how long it takes or how difficult it proves to be.

It goes without saying, of course, that the ability to bide their time also makes them prone to outbursts after waiting too long to bring up something they perceived as unjust.

INTEGRITY

The golden pair: INTEGRITY and JUSTICE. The first, frameworks and rules built inward, the second, frameworks and rules built outward. The integrous Just has a strong moral code and a strong drive to make sure that code is respected by themselves and by others, no matter the situation.

These people are honest, direct, and ready to do the right thing. Sadly, nothing comes without a price: both virtues are so strong-willed that they can become too stuck in their ways, and that might even end up with an inability to admit to being wrong.

PERSEVERANCE

Due to PERSEVERANCE's ability to keep going even in the face of difficulties, the persevering Just will see to it that a wrong be made right, regardless of how long that might take: they are strong-willed and hard to make surrender.

Of course, this comes at a price: the persevering Just can easily become vindictive and end up holding grudges if they feel their moral compass is being disrespected.

KINDNESS
GREEN SOUL  ·  #00C000

No matter how many times I got hurt, I never let that make me cruel.

What is kindness?

Kindness is not niceness. The latter is pleasant and cheap, only offered by those who are unable or unwilling to tell people what they actually need to hear. Kindness is frequently inconvenient, and it might even hurt at first, but it's aimed at providing the best possible outcome for those who wouldn't be able to help themselves.

You are probably the person people tell things to. You often find yourself feeling someone's discomfort and wanting to figure out how to fix things almost out of instinct.

The shadow of one's soul

Kindness defends everyone except the person holding it, and will call that a virtue. The Kind who don't set healthy boundaries more often than not find themselves spent for someone else's sake, even though not everyone might deserve it.

It also hides. Kindness is a very comfortable place to put avoidance: an unhealthy Kind will often disregard their own needs, being willing to take on the pain for everyone else, as if martyrdom were something to aspire to.

Often confused with patience

Patience and Kindness have a few things in common: both trust that time can make things better, but the former concerns itself with time and how it's spent, the latter with alleviating and preventing pain.

The Patient will often remain near people who might ask for help, but wait for them to make the first move; the Kind will simply go ahead and offer their help regardless.

How KINDNESS pairs with other virtues

DETERMINATION

Due to DETERMINATION's ability to envision the goal, the Kind who have it as their secondary virtue often make it their personal quest to be there for anyone that needs them - especially if it's someone they care about.

While this is admirable, it can also end up being too much to bear for a single person, and this is even truer if the determined Kind has trouble accepting that not everyone can be helped, no matter how much they want to.

BRAVERY

Driven by BRAVERY's eagerness to take the first step, the Kind who have it as their secondary virtue are usually making sure that the people they care about know just how much they would like to help - whether they ask for it or not.

These people will immediately intervene to share the burden of sorrow or to help figure out a solution to a problem, even before understanding if there's anything they can do in the first place.

JUSTICE

A very strong pair, KINDNESS and JUSTICE both concern themselves with solving outward issues: if someone needs help, rest assured that the just Kind would never leave them to fend for themselves.

Of course, they will also not be willing to compromise on how to solve things; something which, depending on the circumstances, can prove to be either a blessing or a curse.

PATIENCE

The golden pair, PATIENCE and KINDNESS. Being able to wait for as long as it takes for someone to ask for help without forcing it upon them is an incredibly rare quality to have, and combined with KINDNESS' unwavering desire to help those who need it, it makes the patient Kind the friend everyone goes to when in need.

Sadly, nothing comes without a price: being almost too calm, the patient Kind will often seem like a pushover, and might easily end up being used by people - whether they realize it or not.

INTEGRITY

Thanks to INTEGRITY's strong morals and internal set of rules, the integrous Kind is always ready to help, but can direct this motion towards causes they especially believe in. These people will often fight for social causes and concern themselves with what is good for society, rather than for individuals.

On the other hand, the integrous Kind can end up taking too much pride in their Kindness, to the point where they might feel superior to the people they help, or keep count of their good deeds to bring up later at their convenience.

PERSEVERANCE

Due to PERSEVERANCE's ability to keep going even in the face of difficulties, the persevering Kind will make sure to see any task taken on for the sake of someone else through to the end.

While this may be admirable, the tendency to do it for other people more than for themselves may prove negative for the persevering Kind in the long term.

PATIENCE
LIGHT BLUE SOUL  ·  #42FCFF

Even in the chaos of life, I never let wrath guide my next step.

What is patience?

Patience is a much rarer virtue than people think, because most of what gets called patience is just slowness or avoidance. Patience is the active choice not to force something to happen before its time has come, and to understand the things that cause you pain instead of letting instinct fight them off.

It gives you an unusual tolerance for unresolved situations. While other people need to know things immediately, to have their answers as soon as possible, or to say and do things in the heat of the moment, you can hold an open matter for a long time without it eating at you, while you thoroughly think about how to solve the issue.

The shadow of one's soul

Patience can very easily turn into stillness. If the Patient fails to find the answer they're looking for or if they're asked to make a decision before they feel ready, they might decide that it's better not to make a decision at all, running from the situation instead of facing it.

It can also come at a cost for other people. “Let's wait and see” is a reasonable position to take when you're not the one being harmed in the meantime, and Patience can be slow to notice when the problems that don't concern them become someone else's - especially when it comes to finding closure.

Often confused with perseverance

Both virtues concern themselves with facing hardships regardless of how long it may take, but where Perseverance keeps moving even when faced with the most difficult circumstances, Patience is willing to stop moving until the circumstances have changed.

How PATIENCE pairs with other virtues

DETERMINATION

Due to DETERMINATION's ability to envision the goal, the Patient who have it as their secondary virtue are often dreamers: they know what they want, and are simply waiting for the occasion to arise. In the meantime, they'll keep being inside their own head thinking about their wishes.

Regardless, there is such a thing as too much day-dreaming. A Patient that forgets this might end up wishing for their desires to reach them on their own, forgetting to put in the work themselves.

BRAVERY

The balancing act, BRAVERY and PATIENCE. Where PATIENCE's shadow might lead to inaction and conformity, the brave Patient is able to find the strength to move when standing still becomes something they might later regret.

On the other hand, the brave Patient might seem moody, or difficult to understand. Overall, this combination is not one that can easily be grasped from the outside.

JUSTICE

Thanks to JUSTICE's unwavering moral compass, the just Patient can figure out the best way to right a wrong regardless of how long it takes or how difficult it proves to be.

It goes without saying, of course, that the ability to bide their time also makes them prone to outbursts after waiting too long to bring up something they perceived as unjust.

KINDNESS

The golden pair, KINDNESS and PATIENCE. Being able to wait for as long as it takes for someone to ask for help without forcing it upon them is an incredibly rare quality to have, and combined with KINDNESS' unwavering desire to help those who need it, it makes the kind Patient the friend everyone goes to when in need.

Sadly, nothing comes without a price: being almost too calm, the kind Patient will often seem like a pushover, and might easily end up being used by people - whether they realize it or not.

INTEGRITY

Thanks to the anchor that is INTEGRITY's framework of personal rules, the integrous Patient is able to spend a long time reasoning about who they want to become and how to reach that goal, planning their next step so that it doesn't betray their ideals and figuring out the best road to take along the way.
They stay true to themselves and are calm and honest, qualities not easily found.

For the same reasons, the integrous Patient may end up stagnant if faced with choices that challenge their morals in ways they can't accept, or worse, if they lose sight of themselves along the way.

PERSEVERANCE

A very strong pair, PERSEVERANCE and PATIENCE go hand in hand when it comes to being unwavering: the persevering Patient is an amazing planner, willing to bide their time and wait for the occasion to arise before making a move, but never fully stopping.

On the other hand, this combination of virtues might make the persevering Patient a perfectionist, taking too much time to do things to their own standards of quality, with little concern for deadlines.

INTEGRITY
BLUE SOUL  ·  #003CFF

Despite the pressure to change, I stayed true to myself.

What is integrity?

Integrity is consistency between what is said, what is done, and who one is. It is less about honesty as a policy than about the discomfort of being two different people depending on the circumstances, which you feel more sharply than most.

In practice it makes you predictable, in the good sense. People know what they're getting, you're trustworthy and your word is your bond, making you shine as a guiding light for others to follow.

The shadow of one's soul

Integrity is rigid, and it can quietly become too proud of itself. If unregulated, Integrity can make its own self-satisfaction more important than anything else, so long as it can tell itself that it's part of its identity. Being able to always tell the truth rarely requires hurting the ones who have to hear it.

It's also a way of never having to change. “This is who I am” is a very convenient wall to build and hide behind, and one that is difficult to break down.

Often confused with justice

Integrity and Justice have many things in common: both have a strong moral compass, both are hard to sway, and both concern themselves with building a framework of rules.
The main difference is who these rules are pointed at: Integrity will use them for itself with little concern for others, while Justice holds everyone to those same standards.

How INTEGRITY pairs with other virtues

DETERMINATION

The Integrous with DETERMINATION as their secondary virtue are usually people who figured out who they wanted to become and never stopped chasing that ideal.

BRAVERY

Being so strongly anchored in their principles, the Integrous with BRAVERY as their secondary virtue will do anything to prove who they are: calling them dishonest or doubting their feelings is all but asking for their anger.

This internal compass can also be a great way for the brave Integrous to direct their efforts towards something that is worth fighting for.

JUSTICE

The golden pair: JUSTICE and INTEGRITY. The first, frameworks and rules built outward, the second, frameworks and rules built inward. The just Integrous has a strong moral code and a strong drive to make sure that code is respected by themselves and by others, no matter the situation.

These people are honest, direct, and ready to do the right thing. Sadly, nothing comes without a price: both virtues are so strong-willed that they can become too stuck in their ways, and that might even end up with an inability to admit to being wrong.

KINDNESS

Thanks to KINDNESS' wish to help those in need, the kind Integrous is always ready to help, but can direct this motion towards causes they especially believe in. These people will often fight for social causes and concern themselves with what is good for society, rather than for individuals.

On the other hand, the kind Integrous can end up taking too much pride in their Kindness, to the point where they might feel superior to the people they help, or keep count of their good deeds to bring up later at their convenience.

PATIENCE

Thanks to PATIENCE's willingness to wait until the time is right, the patient Integrous is able to spend a long time reasoning about who they want to become and how to reach that goal, planning their next step so that it doesn't betray their ideals and figuring out the best road to take along the way.
They stay true to themselves and are calm and honest, qualities not easily found.

For the same reasons, the patient Integrous may end up stagnant if faced with choices that challenge their morals in ways they can't accept, or worse, if they lose sight of themselves along the way.

PERSEVERANCE

Thanks to PERSEVERANCE's unwavering drive to keep going no matter how difficult things get, coupled with INTEGRITY's wish to stay true to itself regardless of the circumstances, the persevering Integrous is the kind of person that will work towards their goals without ever betraying their ideals. Upright, trustworthy and strong-willed, they will always try to do what they think is right along the way, even if it means taking a detour.

Of course, no one is perfect. The persevering Integrous can become despots, forcing people to do what they believe is correct in an attempt to do things the way they believe is right.

PERSEVERANCE
PURPLE SOUL  ·  #D535D9

Despite the odds being stacked against me, I still moved forward.

What is perseverance?

Perseverance is about being willing to bend, but not to break. It's the push to keep moving forward even when the destination seems unreachable; and it's about accepting all the pain that comes along with doing so.

The most famous example of Perseverance is that of The Tortoise and the Hare: while the latter overestimated its talent and rested on its laurels, the former didn't let the overwhelming disadvantage discourage it. In the end, it's the one who persevered that won.

The shadow of one's soul

An unhealthy Perseverance is usually unwilling to let things end. It can be close-minded and insistent, often hurting everyone involved in the process: the Persevering are the most susceptible to the sunk cost fallacy.

It can also build up a quiet resentment toward those it's been enduring for, as an unhealthy Perseverance often doesn't say things until it's too late.

Often confused with determination

DETERMINATION and PERSEVERANCE are often confused for one another, but the difference lies in where the energy points.
While DETERMINATION refuses every ending except the one it chose, PERSEVERANCE will look for different ways to achieve at least one of the results it was aiming for.

Of course, that doesn't mean one can't take from the other. Being so similar in behavior, the Determined and the Persevering often find each other to be fascinating: the former admires the endurance and planning skills of the latter, who in turn admires the Determined's desire for success.

How PERSEVERANCE pairs with other virtues

DETERMINATION

These people often choose their paths and careers at a young age and refuse to give up on the dream they chose, and will settle for nothing else.

Sadly, they also have their weaknesses. If changing a Persevering's mind is difficult, a secondary DETERMINATION can easily turn the unstoppable force into an immovable object.

BRAVERY

The Persevering who have BRAVERY as their secondary virtue are the ones who start something and see it through to the end.
No matter how difficult the road may become, PERSEVERANCE will help them keep going where BRAVERY alone wouldn't, and BRAVERY will help them move when even the Persevering would be too scared.

As is the case with anything, though, an excess of conviction might lead the brave Persevering into difficult situations, often ones where facing fear might only dig further down.

JUSTICE

Due to JUSTICE's strong moral compass, the just Persevering will see to it that a wrong be made right, regardless of how long that might take: they are strong-willed and hard to make surrender.

Of course, this comes at a price: the just Persevering can easily become vindictive and end up holding grudges if they feel their moral compass is being disrespected.

KINDNESS

Thanks to KINDNESS' drive to help those in need, the kind Persevering will make sure to see any task taken on for the sake of someone else through to the end.

While this may be admirable, the tendency to do it for other people more than for themselves may prove negative for the kind Persevering in the long term.

PATIENCE

A very strong pair, PATIENCE and PERSEVERANCE go hand in hand when it comes to being unwavering: the patient Persevering is an amazing planner, willing to bide their time and wait for the occasion to arise before making a move, but never fully stopping.

On the other hand, this combination of virtues might make the patient Persevering a perfectionist, taking too much time to do things to their own standards of quality, with little concern for deadlines.

INTEGRITY

Thanks to INTEGRITY's wish to stay true to itself regardless of the circumstances, coupled with PERSEVERANCE's unwavering drive to keep going no matter how difficult things get, the integrous Persevering is the kind of person that will work towards their goals without ever betraying their ideals. Upright, trustworthy and strong-willed, they will always try to do what they think is right along the way, even if it means taking a detour.

Of course, no one is perfect. The integrous Persevering can become despots, forcing people to do what they believe is correct in an attempt to do things the way they believe is right.
