How TvTropes and Jordan Gavaris Made Me Squeal Like a Little Girl
Oh my god you guys, I'm fuh-reaking out. And you possibly don't care, but, um, I'm far too excited. (Spoilers for last night's episode.)
As you may know, I'm a huge nerd who spends waaaaaay too much time on TvTropes. Because of this I've come to recognize tropes in any show that I'm watching. One of my favorite tropes is Chekhov's Gun. There was a Chekhov's gun in last night's UnH episode (the muffins). I noticed it and got all excited, and made a post on Jordan's facebook board, and a girl asked what Chekhov's gun was, and I gave this explanation:
Chekhov's gun is a story-telling tool where an element introduced early in the story becomes significant later on. Like the muffins. It comes from a quote from Anton Chekhov, a Russian dramatist: "If you say in the first chapter that there is a rifle hanging on the wall, in the second or third chapter it absolutely must go off. If it's not going to be fired, it shouldn't be hanging there." I'm going to stop talking about it now, before I sound even nerdier.
To which Jordan replied:
Ruby: Our writer's would be so impressed that you picked up on that literary device- I'll make sure our creator gets to see your post :)
