Ian Barbour reposted thisIan Barbour reposted thisWe have initiated coverage 🔍 📖 of AltynGold Plc (LSE: ALTN). #ALTN is a gold miner in Kazakhstan where a recent 50% hike in processing capacity at its Sekisovskoye mine coupled with leverage to the rising #goldprice are transforming the company’s financial outlook. Despite an exceptional share price performance, the valuation remains low on all measures suggesting very substantial upside remains. AltynGold has a large resource base with more than enough potential to reach its longer-term production target of 100Koz, 80% up on the newly established run rate. AltynGold’s vision is to become a mid-tier producer of scale. We demonstrate very substantial upside remains despite the share price more than trebling over the last year. On a multiples basis, ALTN would trade at a third of the peer group on P/E and at a c40% discount on EV/EBITDA for 2025. The market is valuing the company at just US$65/oz on EV/Reserves, by far the lowest of peers. Recent transactions based take-out valuations are typically on multiples of AltynGold’s forward rating. While a DCF valuation with a cut-off in 2030 and no growth computes to 1,084p/share, a third higher than the current share price. Despite the stellar share price performance, we believe there is significant further upside, as demonstrated across a range of valuation approaches. We believe this upside is likely to be recognised as the financial impact of AltynGold’s processing expansion and leverage to rising #gold prices becomes more evident in the company’s results, starting with the trebling in earnings YoY for 1H25. #mining #equityresearch Colin Smith

Ian Barbour reposted thisIan Barbour reposted thisThis week, we initiated coverage 🔍 📖 of Social Housing REIT (LSE: SOHO). #SOHO has seen its share price advance by ~18% since the appointment of new manager Atrato Group at the start of 2025. The favourable market reaction has been underpinned by Atrato’s efforts to tackle legacy issues with housing providers, ensuring the provision of quality, specially adapted homes, reducing costs and working with the Regulator of Social Housing (RSH) to improve practices and sustainability in the lease-based Specialised Supported Housing (SSH) sector. Fund manager Adrian D'Enrico and managing director Michael Carey have a wealth of experience in the social and supported housing sectors, and are backed up by a specialist team covering fund management, asset management, property inspections, data and finance. Rigorous due diligence is key in a sector where housing providers are often thinly capitalised and may lack a track record. The listed social housing sector has suffered something of an image problem in recent years, with opaque practices, conflicts of interest and poor contract management causing issues, such as at Home REIT, and attracting negative attention from short sellers and the regulator. Atrato has committed to helping restore investor confidence in the sector. The first step is optimising SOHO, which Atrato plans to achieve through proactive and decisive asset management, open and transparent disclosure and taking steps to enhance security of income through restructuring. With a dividend yield above 8% and inflation-linked revenues ultimately derived from central government, SOHO already has the potential to reward investors with good longer-term returns as well as delivering social benefits through the provision of much-needed specialist accommodation at a saving to the taxpayer of c £71m/yr. Portfolio managers Thomas Holl (a mining expert) and Mark Hume (an energy specialist) have taken advantage of share price weakness in the energy transition space (largely sparked by fears over the anti-environmentalist agenda of the new US administration) to move to an overweight position in the segment for the first time since the trust’s remit was broadened in 2020. Ian Barbour reposted thisIan Barbour reposted thisGalliford Try's results continue to affirm the strength of its strategy, market positioning, execution, and risk management. After a strong performance for 1HFY25, FY guidance to June is again for a beat to expectations with revenue and adj PBT expected to slightly exceed the top end of market forecasts, currently standing at £1,885.6m and £41.6m, respectively. That is despite a 14.4% hike in the consensus forecast for adj PBT since January. The company completed its £10m share buyback programme in May including £6.2m repurchased in 2HFY25 yet cash and net cash at YEFY25 still increased to £237.6m from £210.0m at 31 December. The orderbook continues to grow, closing the year at £4.1bn (£3.8bn at YEFY24 and £3.9bn at end 1HFY25) with 90% of revenue already secured for FY26, up from 81% at the interim stage. Ian Barbour reposted thisIan Barbour reposted thisThe Craneware Group’s FY25 results for the year to June confirmed the strength heralded with the July trading update. Net profit came in even stronger than our forecast, and the company announced a 16% increase in the final dividend to 18.5p, also ahead of our forecast. In our view, these results confirm that Craneware is delivering on the benefits promised by its historic investment in the Trisus platform including unlocking the full value of the Sentry acquisition. We make minimal changes to our profit forecasts which reflect the flow through from the FY25 actuals, although we anticipate these will prove conservative. Our discounted cash flow valuation computes to 3,112p, nearly 40% above the current share price. #Research #UKEquities #AIM #software #healthcare

Ian Barbour reposted thisIan Barbour reposted thisTullow Oil reported sharply reduced results for 1H25, on lower production and weaker #oil prices. However, the financial performance belies the underlying strategic progress the company made in the half towards refinancing its debt. That includes generating $380m in 2025 disposal proceeds, with $300m already received in July, together with significant reductions in costs and interest which will benefit H2, as well as entering a MoU to extend the Ghana licences to 2040. Production guidance, excluding Gabon is unchanged, at 40-45kboed as is expected net debt at YE25 of c. $1.1bn with gearing at 1.3x at $65/bbl Brent. Moreover, despite a difficult return from maintenance at Jubilee, the first well in the current six well programme on the field is performing well with another due onstream towards the end of the year. Management remain confident that it will complete the refinancing of the capital structure before the end of the year. #Research #Equities #UKEquities #Exploration

The first stop was the region of Cádiz, home to four sites totalling 234MW to speak with the Statkraft asset management team and the operations and maintenance team from RES. Next, the team travelled to Badajoz to visit TRIG’s Valdesolar site, which has an operating capacity of 264MW. They met with repsol, the valued joint venture partner and asset manager who presented the site in its excellent condition. These visits provide a valuable opportunity to connect, learn about forthcoming works around the asset, discuss and verify health and safety procedures and see the commitment and expertise of our partners first hand. Ian Barbour liked thisGreat to see Hornsea 1, where TRIG holds a 10.2% equity stake, pioneering new drone technology. This was accomplished through its participation in Ørsted's largest-ever program of offshore cargo drone deliveries, which is enhancing operational efficiency and safety in the wind industry. Such innovations enable smarter operations of renewable infrastructure. #RenewableEnergy #OffshoreWind #DroneTechnology #InnovationIan Barbour liked thisTicking off world firsts ✅ We’ve just completed our largest-ever programme of offshore cargo drone deliveries to transport boxes of safety equipment to wind turbines at some of our UK offshore wind farms. Each box, around the weight of a washing machine, was taken from a vessel by the drone and delivered to the nacelle at a height of more than 100 metres. The programme is pushing the boundaries of drone use in the offshore wind industry: ✅ It’s the largest drone delivery programme ever attempted to offshore wind sites, with over 550 flights to more than 400 turbines. ✅ For the first time ever, equipment was delivered while turbines were running. What used to take hours now takes minutes, enabling multiple deliveries per day and in real operating conditions. It’s another step in making offshore wind smarter, safer, and more efficient. Congrats to all teams involved in this fantastic milestone, including our partners Skylift and FlyingBasket! Find more details on our website: https://lnkd.in/gN--NkJb.

IQ Capital has secured a £50m cornerstone commitment from the British Business Bank for its new Fund V, extending a partnership that now spans seven funds and nearly two decades. Founded in 2005 and based in Cambridge and London, IQ Capital focuses on deep tech spanning AI, semiconductors, advanced energy, bioengineering and security. The latest commitment reinforces the UK government’s strategy of backing science-led venture capital to address a persistent scale-up funding gap. Under Managing Partner Max Bautin, the firm has grown to over £1bn in assets under management and supported more than 250 founders, with portfolio companies including Thought Machine, Paragraf, Cambridge GaN Devices and CyberSmart, alongside exits to Apple, Meta, Google, Siemens and Qualcomm. The investment highlights the role of patient, specialist capital in converting the UK’s research strength into globally competitive deep-tech companies, particularly in areas with long development cycles and strategic importance to national resilience and industrial capability. #deeptech #venturecapital #UKtech #AI #semiconductors

Great to see Seraphim Space Investment Trust covered in MoneyWeek, where it was called 2025's best-performing investment trust. The article reviews recent performance, including the move from a discount to a premium to net asset value, alongside increased investor interest. It also highlights the trust’s role in providing public market access to private space companies in a sector with a limited number of pure-play opportunities, and outlines key portfolio developments. UK Investor Group Forms to Highlight the Importance of Good Governance "The Governance for Growth Investor Campaign (GGIC) warns that the British government’s sweeping overhaul of listing rules in its bid to try and attract more innovative and high-growth companies to UK has watered down longstanding shareholder rights that will ultimately dent investor enthusiasm." This effort is laudable but at least part misses a fundamental point. They are trying to take action for better governance in the context of the current public company governance model when what is really needed is a radical change to the model itself. If you want improvement, then this should begin with defining the governing objective as optimizing capital allocation and maximizing operating performance and longer-term shareholder value. Increasing "transparency" etc. is all well and good but will not move the needle in a material way. #corporategovernance #governancearbitrage #newgovernancemodel https://lnkd.in/g-U473ZH

They say "Talent compounds".... So does capital! It was a pleasure for VirtualNonExecs.com to work with the team at Stack BTC PLC (Aquis Stock Exchange) to appoint VNXD members Ray Christopher and David Galan to the board. Two seriously heavyweight operators. Ray Christopher has spent 25+ years managing multi-billion-pound balance sheets for companies like Amazon, Dell, Regus and Alliance Boots, executing over £10bn of global capital markets transactions and helping fund Amazon’s early international expansion. David Galan brings a rare blend of public market, IPO and operational leadership, having led transactions totalling $1bn+, including scaling businesses through to Nasdaq listings and turning around #AIM-listed companies. Now Stack has announced strategic equity investment from Nigel Farage and Blockchain.com as it builds what it describes as the UK’s leading Bitcoin treasury company. It’s an interesting model: 👍 Acquire strong UK operating businesses, while steadily growing a Bitcoin treasury reserve. 👍 A new type of public company for the digital monetary era. I’m having more and more conversations with offshore investors who are looking for something a bit more specific than traditional asset classes. The AANZ Fund is a great example of that - giving exposure to the aviation sector through a structured New Zealand investment while also meeting Active Investor Plus Visa requirements. It’s a really interesting shift towards more specialised, high-quality opportunities. AANZ has liquidity, is asset backed and has quarterly distributions for investors who want income on the way through their AIP investment. Happy to have a conversation if this is of interest.

When we started building Zest Equity, the goal was simple: create an infrastructure layer that makes private transactions transparent and more efficient for everyone involved: dealmakers, investors, and partners alike. With the launch of Zest Arrange and Zest Escrow, alongside our SPV capabilities, we are strengthening that foundation. Regulation and digital execution are not just about speed, they are about alignment, governance, and providing visibility to all parties throughout the lifecycle of a deal. As private markets across MENA continue to attract global capital, trust becomes the real currency. Our focus has always been to build systems where clarity replaces ambiguity, and where every stakeholder can transact with confidence. Grateful to our clients and partners who continue to build with us.

One year in to my investing journey with Blackworks Capitals first fund and quite pleased with the results. We finished our first full year of investing gaining 45.3% net of fees, more than doubling our S&P500 benchmark. As I move in to 2026 the focus remains on improving the systems, managing risk, growing the business, and finding new rivers to go fly fishing on. The last part being of critical importance to the first three. Reflecting on the last year is bittersweet. It’s been a year of personal struggle and personal growth but for once in my career I’ve found a balance between my professional endeavors and my personal enjoyment of life. I’ve found in that balance I’m better at both. I’m very much looking forward to the rest of the year, got a lot planned for the company and a lot planned in life. As for the company, if you are interested in following along, check out the company page and sign up for the monthly investor letter I write talking about how everything is going and my thoughts on the market.

I wonder if Kelvin Capital’s launch of the Catalyst Fund reflects a broader opportunity in backing established, EBITDA-positive UK businesses at inflection points such as succession, ownership transition, and strategic expansion. The combination of a new platform with an existing investment track record of more than £150 million since 2009 suggests a deliberate move toward supporting mature SMEs through their next phase of growth. #PrivateEquity #GrowthCapital #UKSMEs
