Recare customer Elisa Tarrant explains how her Ottobock Zenit wheelchair supports her independent lifestyle. A qualified accountant for 25 years, Elisa has neurological damage which means walking long distances and hand-eye coordination are difficult. Her lightweight Zenit wheelchair is specifically designed for her needs and easily transported in her automatic car. Since owning her new Zenit for over six months, Elisa has experienced a massive difference to her working week. She says: "It gives me freedom. It's brilliant. Just last week, we posted about the importance of early intervention when supporting children with disabilities. Today, we were saddened to read the charity Whizz Kidz "has been forced to close its specialist wheelchairs waitlist for the first time in its 35-year history" due to huge demand, escalating costs and squeezed NHS budgets. In our previous post, we wrote: “It’s essential a young person is ‘seated well’ as quickly as possible - without good posture, their bodies may develop and grow asymmetrically, leading to further challenges in the future.” At Recare, we’re proud to support children from their earliest years, through their teens and into adulthood. Following a Recare recommendation by the charity AFK | Working With Disability, Nicole's customised Ki Mobility Little Wave Clik wheelchair was adapted to include a Benoit Systemes 2.1 Mini and a Rehasense Track Wheel. AFK coordinated with four other charities to raise funds towards Nicole's new wheelchair combination. The additional joystick-controlled power assist and tri-wheel setup ensured her mobility was maximised both indoors and out, on and off-road. When supporting children with disabilities, we always advocate early intervention. A specialist product assessor before early retirement, when Simon needed a new powerchair he turned to Recare.
