Originally the Batchelor XV, they joined Penarth Dreadnoughts in 1882 and became Penarth Football Club. During WW1, 19 Penarth RFC players were killed on active duty and are commemorated by the Memorial Stand. The traditional highlight of the Club's year used to be hosting the world-famous Barbarians at their annual Good Friday fixture, which marked the start of the “Baa-Baas” annual Wales tour from their “spiritual home” in Penarth, before games against Cardiff, Swansea and Newport RFC.
