  • The Duke of Edinburgh award promotes teamwork, self-discipline, and independence in young people, making it a crucial part of the cadet syllabus and an important category of the ACCT UK Excellence Awards. Black Watch Battalion's Cadet Company Sergeant Major Rubyann Held is the 2025 recipient of the DofE Excellence Award. Going above and beyond the completion of the three levels, Rubyann is Scotland’s first Army Cadet to enrol in the DofE Young Leaders Course. Leading on DofE activity for her detachment and company, mentoring a cohort of eight Young Leaders, and supporting cadets and adults across the battalion. "This award reflects not just my effort, but the encouragement and guidance I've received throughout my own DofE journey. It's a reminder to me to continue to grow, lead and to make a difference to others." - Cadet Company Sergeant Major Rubyann Held Cadet Company Sergeant Held plans to begin fundraising for cadets who cannot afford enrolment fees, enabling them the same access to the Duke of Edinburgh award and the opportunities that come with it. Thank you, Cadet Company Sergeant Held. Your high standard for excellence is an inspiration to us all! • We’d like to extend a huge thank you to Alex, who supported ACCT UK last week by taking on the incredible challenge of walking 100 miles in just three days. Alex’s son, a cadet with Hereford & Worcester Army Cadet Force, was the inspiration behind the journey. He even joined his dad on the third and final day of the trek. "The last day was extra special because my 13-year-old son Anthony joined me for the final stretch into Pershore. We even got caught in heavy rain near the end, but it just added to the adventure and the memories." Alex credits the Army Cadets UK | Official with giving young people life-changing opportunities that help build "resilience, confidence, genuine friendships, and outdoor skills in a world full of screen time and pressures" (and we couldn’t agree more). • Recently, ACCT UK caught up with 2nd (Northern Ireland) Battalion, Army Cadet Force to learn how cadets and adult volunteers thought outside the box to raise almost £15,000 for the charity in 2025. "The key to our success was encouraging everyone to look for opportunities to incorporate fundraising into activities that were already taking place." - Captain Giovannoli Read the full story to discover the battalion's top 7 tips for fundraising success, and tell us your favourite way to fundraise in the comments! • At ACCT UK, we're constantly amazed by the ways cadets and adult volunteers go above and beyond for Cadet Challenge fundraising campaigns. Channelling the ethos of the Army Cadets to help provide young people with access to vital opportunities. Sussex ACF's Colour Sergeant Larry Stokes is a shining example of this dedication, having raised over £6,000 for ACCT UK over the past two Cadet Challenges. Most recently, Colour Sergeant Stokes took part in a fundraising mission he coined the 'Bike, Hike, and Waterfalls' challenge, which saw him cycle 395km from Manila to Naga City before hiking through jungle terrain to 10 waterfalls, facing steep drops, challenging trails and unpredictable conditions. Thanks to Larry's fundraising efforts, ACCT UK can continue its work supporting cadets and adult volunteers through grants, training, qualifications, and so much more. Clara Gill, Fundraising and Corporate Engagement Manager, visited Colour Sergeant Stokes' detachment to present him with a Cadet Challenge 2025 certificate: "Larry is a fundraising dream, and it has been amazing to work with him for the past two Cadet Challenges. It was my absolute pleasure to get to finally thank him in person. He's a total legend, and we are so grateful for his support!" Feeling inspired but not sure where to begin? Why not check out our A-Z fundraising guide: https://lnkd.in/esVpe3Rb You don't need to be a cadet to get involved. Everyone is welcome to take part in Cadet Challenge 2026. 📍 ACCT UK ARE HIRING IN NORTHERN IRELAND! We are looking for a Branch Secretary to run our Northern Ireland Branch on a part-time basis. The successful applicant will find themselves right at the heart of what makes the Northern Ireland Branch tick, with responsibility for managing key relationships, arranging our annual calendar of meetings and liaising with our central offices. The role is very flexible, with minimal time commitment (8 hours a week), so would suit someone who is returning to the workforce after an absence or who wishes to top up existing income. You will have the opportunity to set your own hours and will have considerable autonomy over how you work. The ideal candidate will have a can-do attitude, excellent communication skills, and a strong interest in helping young people! Being based in Northern Ireland is also essential. Knowledge of the Army Cadet Force in Northern Ireland would be an advantage, as well as administrative experience from other roles e.g. PA/EA, Governance/Compliance Manager or similar. However, training and onboarding will be provided. Apply by Friday 29 May: https://lnkd.in/eVKjH8XM

  • The next ACCT UK Excellence Award winner joined 1st Northern Ireland Battalion as an adult volunteer in 2022 and has since shown exceptional dedication and passion for sports. Staff Sergeant Bo Anderson has dedicated her personal time to running rugby training and coaching sessions, creating safe, inclusive and high‑quality experiences that raise standards and open up opportunities for many more cadets to take part and succeed. On top of dedicating her time to training cadets and attending every sports weekend since joining the ACF, Staff Sergeant Anderson's passion for archery saw her coach Northern Ireland’s first National archery teams to runners‑up and third place at their debut championships in 2025. "Winning the Excellence Award in sport means a great deal to me, as it reflects the hard work, discipline, and resilience I’ve developed in my sports officer role. It’s an honour to be recognised and motivates me to keep pushing my limits." We can't wait to honour Staff Sergeant Anderson at our Excellence Awards ceremony next month. Discover who will be joining Bo at the ceremony here: https://lnkd.in/efmmZdBx ACCT UK's Excellence Awards are supported by BAE Systems with additional contributions from Ammo & Company and HORIBA MIRA

  • The next ACCT UK Excellence Award winner we'd like to introduce you to is Durham ACF's WO2 Derek Corbett who, after devoting over 40 years to the Durham ACF Band, will be receiving the music award for adult volunteers at the ceremony in June. WO2 Corbett has spent decades inspiring generations of young people, representing the Army Cadets at international commemoration events in Arnhem and parades marking the Battle of Trafalgar, all the while holding the record for most performances at Gateshead Cenotaph. Derek says it's "a great honour to receive this award." We look forward to being able to officially honour his commitment, professionalism, and mentorship at the ceremony next month.
