Quite probably the biggest trans rights rally ever in the UK, spilling across Whitehall

Having spent a few hours knocking on doors in Tiverton this afternoon, I can confirm that people have very much *not* moved on from #Partygate. Almost everyone is disgusted by the Conservatives' behaviour. #HIGNFY

Yesterday afternoon I asked the CEO of the EHRC "what is biological sex?" He couldn't answer. One of his directors eventually admitted that they had interpreted it to mean essentially "administrative sex" - no biology involved.

Liz Truss on @BBCr4today: Roundhay was part of Leeds North East, returned a Conservative MP between 1955 and 1997, when she was at Roundhay School under a Conservative Government. She went into politics because she saw failure all around - but joined the party responsible?

So the operational head of the EHRC has no answers yet sits silently while his organisation plays a key part in stripping rights and protections away from trans people. It's absolutely disgusting. @victor_madrigal

I then asked how I, as a trans woman, would be able to live any form of public life if I was effectively barred from women's spaces. His answer - "These are all important points. I acknowledge them." So no answer there either.

I then asked, as the Scottish Government has done, for the evidence which has underpinned their U turn. You'd have thought by now they'd have this evidence at their fingertips, given the number of people who'd asked. Nope - no answer.

I then explained the actual impact the EHRC letter had had on me. It resulted in him sitting in silence for 10 seconds, before saying he heard what I was saying, then sitting in silence for another 10 seconds.

I then asked what other NHRIs across the world were taking the same stance as the EHRC. His answer - he wasn't aware of others' stances, yet somehow was aware that others had taken different stances. He couldn't answer why the EHRC was now an outlier amongst them.

Just a word about toilets. My wife has shown me some posts where women are saying theyโ€™re afraid that they wonโ€™t be able to challenge men who go into the ladies if the Gender Recognition Act is reformed to a self-declaration mechanism. Quite frankly, thatโ€™s bollocks. (1/3)

Honestly, if your response to a new hate crime law is to scream hatred at a marginalised group of people and use that as your reason why the new law shouldnโ€™t be there, youโ€™re only proving that the new law is clearly necessary. Seriously, take a good look at yourselves.

Over the next few months, trans and non-binary people are likely to hear a number of alarming proposals from this government. This is deliberate. They're chasing headlines and trying to set society's expectations. There's also no time to actually do anything they're proposing.

Iโ€™m really grateful to the Green Party in Chippenham for standing aside in this General Election, as they did in 2017. It means the Remain voice has one clear candidate they can vote for here, so we can Stop Brexit and move on to the things that matter, like the climate crisis.

In other words, you cannot bar someone because of who they are, but you can bar anyone because of what they do IF it's illegal. And this is totally separate from anything to do with legal gender recognition. (4/4)
