As Shabbat arrives, may the energy of the hamsa create a sacred space around you full of goodness, love, and protection.

May it be a powerful shield against all fear and a guardian of our most fragile and precious hopes.

May its watchful eye deflect any harsh gaze or negative energy, allowing only for light and blessings.

May we all be held safely in a divine hand, allowing this Shabbat to bestow upon us a peace that is both deeply felt and Divinely guarded.

Shabbat Shalom πŸͺ¬πŸ§Ώβœ¨

Made direct eye-contact with a re-seller as I calmly took the last of an item off the shelf while they had a cart filled with the same thing. Filled to the top of the cart, but they still scoffed and gave a dirty look about me taking the last one off the shelf before they could. And I maintained eye-contact as I put the item in my basket and walked around them to leave the aisle with my one item, my one, singular item I'd been trying to get for almost a year but couldn't find because of resellers.

Then they rushed away out of the aisle, very flushed and muttering under their breath. Dominance asserted. Reseller shook. Balance inches closer to being restored.

Today I handled another blessing for a Jewish home and called their new mezuzah to its purpose. It was a beautiful blessing and rite for a beautiful family, and I've been in such good spirits all day long, and especially after that.

I don't take lightly that I'm trusted to bring protection and blessings into the homes of my Jewish community, magical and non-magical alike. Every time I'm asked to handle or craft any kind of blessing, I feel like I'm being blessed myself as well.

On anon for safety reasons but I just wanted to come here and thank you for the amulets you designed for protection for abuse victims. My brother saw them on your blog and we made them together for me and had our rabbi bless them. I recently was moved into a women's shelter temporarily and have been concerned that after my housing was available -- my move in date is in 8 days, yay! -- about feeling safe in an apartment on my own with my ex still in the same city as me. Your amulets have helped me feel not so scared though and I carry one with me everywhere for up and tucked in my clothes. I felt silly at first doing it but I feel attached to it now and it brings me comfort. So thank you for taking the time to design them. My rabbi also said they were beautifully made and he found the texts you selected very fitting. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you. I hope you have a life filled with happiness and blessings!

It gladdens my heart more than you could know that those amulets have brought you any kind of reassurance or comfort. I hope they continue to do so, and I wish you a safe and easy moving process and transition into your new space. May your days from here on be lived in peace, safety, and love, and my you know protection now and always. I am sending so much support and love your way. Χ™Χ”Χ•Χ” bless you and protect you. 🧿πŸ”₯✑️

Plans for the High Holidays this year, Kez?

Avatar

Lots of at home spiritual and mystical things leading into it all, and then the plans (between observing with the chavurah and the family) are:

  • Selichot service
  • Erev Rosh HaShanah service
  • Hosting my Rosh HaShanah dinner, as per usual
  • Rosh HaShanah service and observances
  • Pre-Kol Nidrei meditations
  • Kol Nidrei service
  • Yom Kippur fasting
  • Yom Kippur mystical things with Jewitch friends
  • Yom Kippur service & Yizkor
  • Hosting a Yom Kippur break fast

And we've not got Sukkot arrangements fully settled yet, but my chavurah is planning on doing something for Sukkot and something for Simchat Torah as well. And I've got mystical, spiritual, magical things I observe every year leading up to the High Holidays and throughout the Days as well.

You know this time of year always keeps me busy lol. How about you, Raz? Anything planned for this year?

I saw that nod from Auntie Ketzirah! Jewitches, Rabbi Danya Ruttenberg, Miriam Anzovin, Throwing Sheyd, Bridgette the Strange Witch, Ezra Rose, Hebrunes and frikkin Sheydmade! That's some company to be in for sure and I love to see it!!!!!! Give my girl her flowers!!!!! The fact that Ketzirah included you in recommending Jewish creators of SUCH caliber is major! In all seriousness tho, it's actually so nice to see people acknowledge the work you put into sheydmade and the resource you are to Jewish magical community. I for one love and appreciate sheydmade SO MUCH and I was so happy to see someone like Ketzirah showing love to other Jewish creators and thinking to include you! It's big to have prominent educators and voices in the community know you're there and see your work and acknowledge it and support it and endorse it! I'm super super happy for you, kez! I hope it helps even more people discover everything you've been doing on sheydmade!!

This was such a lovely, sweet thing to find in my inbox this morning (or late night, depending on how one looks at 1am lol)! Thank you so much, anon, for your kind words, your wishes, your love for my @sheydmade, and for sharing this with me! I truly appreciate it!

And I'm just as excited as you are! I had no idea I'd been featured or included at first, and didn't even know that Ketzirah had ever even seen my work or my accounts at all! So it was all a very, very pleasant surprise! And, yeah, that really is some pretty amazing company to be counted amongst, and I'm really touched that she thought to include me at all, let alone to list me among so many people I enjoy and support myself.

Thanks again for this really kind ask! I actually needed it more than you know! πŸ–€

I don't really post often about things like "accomplishments" or acknowledgements from elders or valued educators and voices in the community, because I've always felt like I could come across as bragging if I do so (which is also why I don't talk much about the research projects I've had a hand in), but I'm going to allow myself this one little thing. Apologies if this does annoy you lol.

I just found out @sheydmade was featured on Ketzirah Lesser, haMa'agelet's recommendations for a Jewitch Starter Pack, which might not feel like anything major, but it means a lot to me because Devotaj Sacred Arts is such a valued and loved resource for so many Jewish witches out there, and Ketzirah is someone whom I personally admire so much not only for their practice, but for their kindness and the work they put into building and fostering Jewish magical and mystical community.

And, I won't even front, it is also really nice to be included in such great company of writers, researchers, educators, artists, and practitioners that I enjoy so very much (Jewitches/Zohare Jacobi, Miriam Anzovin, Rabbi Ruttenberg, Sheydgarden/Ezra Rose were all also featured, among a few others)!

I know it's not much, but coming out of my burrow where I've been burried in research and writing and translations, and where I've been very guilty of being quite bad at being active in online community for the last few months because of that work paired with my family suffering a major loss in the passing of Grandpa Jack, and then topped with dealing with harassment and cyber stalking throughout much of this year... Opening a text to see that I've been featured and acknowledged, that I've been seen, that what I'm doing is appreciated and is known beyond the bubbles I know online, that really meant something to me today, and it really touched me.

And it also made me realize that I need to do better at being in community! I need to do more, and I need to keep going, because I genuinely enjoy what I do, and it means so much to me to play any part in the preservation of Jewish magic and mysticism. It matters to me, and I think sometimes, especially lately, the negative aspects of being online (particularly being so publicly Jewish online) impact me and my work, and I can't let them do that anymore! I can't let the bad things that come along with it detract from something that has always meant so much to me.

So, if you've noticed I've been quieter lately, worry not! I'll start getting louder and more active again! lol. And you can expect a lot more from @sheydmade (on tumblr, substack, and elsewhere...) to come! There's a massive project I've been working on for several months now that is almost ready for your eyes to see! And, honestly, I needed the reminder that I'm in such great community and that what I'm doing means something to push me over this finish line on this one.
