Holo-Doctor

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference
This article needs a big cleanup.

Is the hologram Doctor from COMIC: The Other Doctor actually called the "Holo-Doctor"? And are they actually the same hologram(s)? and information from PROSE: The Official Doctor Who Quiz Book [+]Loading...["The Official Doctor Who Quiz Book"] is missing.

These problems might be so great that the article's factual accuracy has been compromised. Talk about it here or check the revision history or Tardis Manual for more information.

The Holo-Doctor, (PROSE: Infinite Requiem [+]Loading...["Infinite Requiem (novel)"], TV: The Power of the Doctor [+]Loading...["The Power of the Doctor (TV story)"]) also referred to as the holo-me by the Thirteenth Doctor, was an interactive AI hologram (TV: The Power of the Doctor [+]Loading...["The Power of the Doctor (TV story)"]) that multiple incarnations of the Doctor provided for their companions to consult when they were not available. The hologram could take the form of different Doctors, depending on their emotions and which Doctor the person had known the longest. History[[edit] | [edit source]]

Given to Bernice Summerfield[[edit] | [edit source]]

The Seventh Doctor once gave Bernice Summerfield a "simple, interactive hologram" of himself that projected from a small pyramid, originally intending to give it to Ace before she left them. Benny considered its realism perfect apart from haziness around the edges, and mentally referred to him as the "holo-Doctor" or "h-Doctor". He wore the Doctor's brown coat, hat, and usual umbrella. Given to Alice Obiefune[[edit] | [edit source]]

Anticipating that he would be corrupted by the Talent Scout during his takeover of SERVEYOUinc, the Eleventh Doctor provided Alice Obiefune with a copy of the Holo-Doctor in his watch to consult her in a backup plan to regain his senses. It advised her as she dressed and acted as the Doctor to inspire hope in those being hunted for their creativity in SERVEYOUinc City, ultimately allowing the Doctor to break out of his Chief Executive persona. Perfected by the Thirteenth Doctor[[edit] | [edit source]]

During the Master's Dalek Plan[[edit] | [edit source]]

The Holo-Doctor was later used by the Thirteenth Doctor to assist her in thwarting the Master's Dalek Plan. The Doctor had planted hologram implants of herself on Yasmin Khan, Tegan Jovanka and Ace, allowing the hologram to appear in close proximity to any one of them. However, as the holograms were affected by their emotional memory, the holograms also took the appearance of the Fugitive Doctor, Fifth Doctor, and Seventh Doctor, respectively.

A hologram of the Fifth Doctor made amends with Tegan Jovanka, reminding her that he never forgot her after they parted company, whilst a hologram of the Seventh Doctor made amends with Ace after their fall out. A hologram of the Fugitive Doctor assisted Yasmin Khan and Inston-Vee Vinder in reversing the Thirteenth Doctor's forced regeneration using the regeneration energy of the CyberMasters, and bore witness to the resulting "forced degeneration" before deactivating. Reuniting with an older Seventh Doctor within the Remembered TARDIS, Ace recalled that he was a hologram the last time she saw him. Also remembering this, the Doctor indicated that he was from an alternative time stream where he had not regenerated. (TV: The Curse of Fenric [+]Loading...["The Curse of Fenric (TotT TV story)"])

Further adventures[[edit] | [edit source]]

As outlined in one account, a time disruption causing ripples in the Cyber-Wars might have prompted the Holo-Doctor — who was in the form of the Thirteenth Doctor due to being a copy made by that incarnation within an abandoned TARDIS — to take control of the abandoned TARDIS and reunite with Yasmin Khan. The duo recruited others to stop whatever force was causing these ripples. During Ace's first adventure travelling with the Doctor, the Holo-Doctor once again appeared in the form of an older Seventh Doctor and advised Ace during the Treasurer's treasure hunt in 1920s Soho. It was able to do this because it existed outside of time, making it possible to meet Ace before the Thirteenth Doctor had implanted the hologram. When Ace mentioned this to the Doctor, he was curious about what this meant for their futures together. (AUDIO: Backwards and in Heels)

Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

  • After some fan confusion, writer Nick Slawicz had to clarify that it was not the Holo-Doctor that appeared in his audio story, The World Tree [+]Loading...["The World Tree (audio story)"], but just a live-feed of the Eleventh Doctor that appeared as a hologram.[1]
  • According to the production information text on the Scream of the Shalka [+]Loading...["Scream of the Shalka (webcast)"] DVD, in original drafts of the script, a hologram of the Fifth Doctor was to serve as the TARDIS Defence System; this was changed to the android Master.
