You can certainly choose to enjoy Doctor Who as purely a television series. But did you know that there are far more stories told in the comic and audio form than exist in the whole television catalogue? Luckily, there's no such thing as canon in this fandom. So you can enjoy exactly the kind of Doctor Who you prefer. And we'll be here to cover it all!
The Circuit Breaker multimedia story event - centred on the Fugitive Doctor, the mysterious incarnation from a past time, played by Jo Martin - releases in various parts across July, August and September of this year, overseen by Esmie Jikiemi-Pearson, across audio dramas, comics, prose, a video game and the official Doctor Who website. The event focuses on the Doctor being called to assist with strange alien artifacts that begin appearing inside UNIT’s Black Archive. Episodes 1 & 3 of The Daleks' Master Plan - The Nightmare Begins and Devil's Planet were recently recovered by Film Is Fabulous, thanks to the estate of an anonymous deceased collector. The first recovery of missing episodes in over a decade, the episodes have now been released digitally in the UK on BBC iPlayer as part of the Whoniverse collection and in the US on the official Classic Doctor Who YouTube channel. Big Finish's main range of Doctor Who audio stories features the adventures of mainly the Fifth, Sixth and Seventh Doctors, complete with large casts, sound effects and scores. Though some original-to-audio companions are occasionally used, the line typically features the original lead actors seen on television.
The Night Walkers concluded the tale of the Second Doctor living in Time Lord-enforced exile in London for a few months prior to becoming the Third Doctor. Much of the story stressed how he had actually become a celebrity and was appearing on a television game show when the Time Lords finally caught up with him to impose the final punishment mentioned — but never quite seen — in his last televised story.
Doctor Who and the Mines of Terror was a 1985 platform video game released for the BBC Micro and other gaming computers. The game featured the Sixth Doctor, travelling with a robotic cat companion named Splinx, attempting to stop the Tremas Master from disrupting the universe.
