"Encounters with IG-series droids are rarely pleasant. I can attest to that, because back on Abrioin Major we had our hands full with an entire army of IG droids of various series."
―Commander Verd, in the Alamac of Clankers[2]

Clone Commander Verd was a clone trooper officer who served in the Grand Army of the Republic's 442nd Siege Battalion during the Clone Wars against the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Commander Verd participated in the costly Republic victory at the Battle of Abrion Bridge, and later participated in the Outer Rim Sieges with the Battle of Cato Neimoidia alongside Jedi General Plo Koon. During the war, Verd was a guest author for "Neyo's Almanac of Clankers," a survival compendium compiled by Clone Marshal Commander Neyo.

    Biography

    Early life and service

Grown on the planet Kamino from the DNA of Jango Fett, a bounty hunter who became the template of the clone trooper army,[1] the clone eventually named Verd served as a clone trooper officer within the Grand Army of the Republic, eventually reaching the military rank of Clone Commander[2] and leading the 442nd Siege Battalion.[3] In 22 BBY,[4] the 442nd Siege Battalion participated in the Battle of Hypori, where Galactic Republic forces were slaughtered by the Confederacy of Independent Systems and General Grievous.[5]

When the Republic received intelligence of a Separatist weapons factory that was being used to develop a new mega-ion cannon on Abrion Major, Commander Verd and the 442nd Siege Battalion was deployed alongside[5] High Jedi General[6] Obi-Wan Kenobi and Clone Marshal Commander Cody's 7th Sky Corps and a company of the Roonian defense forces to assault the factory through the Abrion Bridge.[5] There, Verd and their troops fought against the IG-series battle droid army of various types.[2] Ultimately, the Battle of Abrion Bridge resulted in a costly Republic victory, with the Republic receiving heavy casualties.[5]

    Later war service

Eventually by 19 BBY,[7] Verd was a guest author on an edition of "Neyo's Almanac of Clankers," a survival compendium sent by Clone Marshal Commander Neyo of the 91st Mobile Reconnaissance Corps that was sent to the clone cadets of the Clone Youth Brigade. In one edition, Verd wrote the entry on the IG-227 Hailfire-class droid tank and providing historical context on the development of IG-series droids and organizations, including Phlut Design Systems, the InterGalactic Banking Clan, and Holowan Laboratories. In the entry, Verd described the IG-227's capabilities and limitations, as well as providing information on its initial pre-war roles and its wartime service.[2]

Later that year,[8] during the final days of the war, Jedi General Plo Koon led Verd's 442nd Siege Battalion in the Battle of Cato Neimoidia the Confederacy forces on the Neimoidian colony Cato Neimoidia. During the battle, Verd directed the 442nd's companies to besiege the Separatist base at an arena in the city Tarko-se using the battalion's AT-RT walkers and Infantry Support Platforms. With aerial support from Clone Flight Squad Seven and Plo Koon, the Republic forces were eventually able to gain control of the planet from Separatist Alliance General Baik Raaorn and his forces.[3]

Shortly after the battle, Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Sidious, publicly the Republic Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine, contacted clone trooper officers throughout the galaxy, instructing them them to execute Order 66. The protocol called for the immediate execution of the Jedi as they were classified as traitors, thus beginning the Great Jedi Purge. Plo Koon was executed on Cato Neimoidia,[9] and the 442nd participated in the purge.[10]

    Personality and traits

As a clone[2] of the bounty hunter Jango Fett, Verd was a human who stood at 1.83 meters tall (6 ft),[1] weighed eighty kilograms,[1] and had tan skin.[1]

    Skills and abilities

As a clone trooper officer, Commander Verd was trained in combat and was placed in a leadership position.[3]

    Equipment

At birth, like the other clone troopers, Verd was implanted by the Kaminoan scientists with a behavioral modification biochip to ensure that they would not resist certain orders.[1]

    Behind the scenes

Commander Verd was mentioned in Star Wars: Battles that Changed the Galaxy, a reference book published in 2021.[3]
