A valath was a huge and deadly creature that was the apex predator of the planet Chandar's Folly. It had a hide that boasted unique chromatophores which allowed it to blend into its background. Whilst being hunted by Governor Wilhuff Tarkin and nineteen other hunters, Darth Vader killed a valath, without the use of his lightsaber, and wore its skin as a cloak.[1]
