"These omnivores dine on small prey, along with tubers, sage, and other desert vegetation."
―From the journal of Ardis San Tekka[1]

Sage was a type of desert vegetation that could be found on the planet Tatooine, where it was eaten by reptilian dewbacks.[1] One variety was desert sage, which the mother of the Jawa Jot used alongside funnel flowers to make a crown for a krayt dragon skeleton on Tatooine by[2] 1 BBY.[3] Galactic Society of Creature Enthusiasts Director of Creature Cartography Ardis San Tekka mentioned sage when writing about dewbacks in her journal[1] at some point after the Battle of Exegol in 35 ABY.[4]

    Behind the scenes

Sage was first mentioned in the form of desert sage in the short story "Stories in the Sand," which was by Griffin McElroy and published in the 2017 anthology book From a Certain Point of View.[2] Sage was then directly mentioned in the reference book Star Wars Bestiary, Vol. 1: Creatures of the Galaxy, which was written by S.T. Bende[1] and released on November 5, 2024.[5] Prior to the book's release, the page mentioning sage was first shown as part of a StarWars.com article published on October 22, 2024.[6] In the real world, sage is a species of aromatic herb in the mint family.[7]
