The New Republic Defense Fleet Starfighter Corps also known as the New Republic Starfighter Corps was the starfighter branch of the New Republic Defense Force, and was subordinate to the New Republic Defense Fleet. Formed during the Galactic Civil War after the Alliance to Restore the Republic transitioned into the New Republic, the Republic's starfighter corps participated in various engagements towards the end of the pan-galactic conflict in the aftermath of the Battle of Endor, including participating in Operation: Cinder, the Hunt for Shadow Wing, and the climactic and final Battle of Jakku, which resulted in the signing of the Galactic Concordance.

Following the end of the war, the New Republic Starfighter Corps was responsible for responding to criminal threats, including those by pirates, as well as specific incidents. After a period of peace, many members of the corps were recruited into the starfighter forces of the paramilitary Resistance group, which fought against the First Order, a faction forged from remnants of the Galactic Empire. Open conflict once again began when the First Order destroyed the New Republic in the Hosnian Cataclysm.

The New Republic Defense Fleet Starfighter Corps,[8] also known as the New Republic Starfighter Corps,[1] was the starfighter branch of the New Republic Defense Fleet. The corps consisted of various squadrons deployed across the galaxy and manned by New Republic pilots, astromech droids,[3] and New Republic officers.[9]

    Units

The starfighter corps consisted of many squadrons, including Squadron 77,[10] the Adelphi Rangers headquartered on Adelphi,[11] Anvil Squadron headquartered on the Silver Coronet,[9] Blade Squadron from Amalthea,[12] Corona Squadron from Liberty,[13] Gold Squadron,[4] Green Squadron,[3] Hail Squadron from the Lodestar,[14] Phoenix Squadron[15], the precision air team,[6] Rapier Squadron[16] from Brooksdion Station,[17] Red Squadron,[3] Rogue Squadron,[9] the Sector Patrol,[18], the Tierfon Yellow Aces,[5] and Vanguard Squadron from the Temperance.[9]

    Equipment

As the starfighter branch of the New Republic Defense Force, the New Republic Starfighter Corps utilized a variety of starfighter models,[14] ranging from heavy assault starfighters, standard fighters, starfighter/bombers, and lighter interceptor models.[3] A number of model types were inherited from the New Republic's predecessor, the Rebel Alliance.[19] These models included the A/SF-01 B-wing starfighter, the BTL-A4 Y-wing assault starfighter/bomber, the RZ-1 A-wing interceptor, the T-47 airspeeder, the T-65B X-wing starfighter,[3] and the T-65C-A2 X-wing starfighter.[5]

Subsequently, the New Republic produced newer models of fighter craft, including the E-wing starfighter,[20] the RZ-2 A-wing interceptor, the T-70 X-wing starfighter, the T-85 X-wing starfighter,[21] and the Tri-Wing S-91x Pegasus Starfighter.[22] The Republic Era Alpha-3 Nimbus-class V-wing starfighter was also utilized by New Republic personnel.[23]

    History

    Galactic Civil War

    Initial engagements

    Squadrons-Xwing
The New Republic Starfighter Corps continued the efforts against the Empire from its predecessor

The New Republic Defense Fleet Starfighter Corps was created with the transition of the Alliance to Restore the Republic into the New Republic[4] in 4 ABY,[24] including the transformation of the Rebel Alliance Starfighter Corps into the starfighter branch of the New Republic following the Imperial defeat at the Battle of Endor.[4] During this time, the Galactic Civil War continued to wage across the galaxy with the nascent New Republic against the crumbling Galactic Empire. In the early engagements of the New Republic Starfighter Corps, the corps participated in a skirmish in the Jendorn system, where New Republic starfighters unsuccessfully escorted a corvette until they were attacked by the 204th Imperial Fighter Wing. In a subsequent engagement with the 204th, the New Republic Starfighter Corps suffered a defeat with the destruction of the Hellion's Dare and various starfighters in a skirmish at Jiruus and attack. After this, the New Republic's Alphabet Squadron participated in a mission to Abednedo against the Empire. Later, Alphabet Squadron and Hail Squadron destroyed an Imperial Star Destroyer in a battle in the Haldeen sector. Around this time, the New Republic launched a campaign to neutralize the 204th Imperial Fighter Wing, with such engagements including the Battle of Pandem Nai.[14]

Months after the Battle of Endor, members of the starfighter corps participated in the battle of Naalol as well as a rebellion on Akiva where starfighter forces supported a fleet led by Commander Kyrsta Agate.[4] New Republic starfighter forces subsequently took part in the Battle of Var-Shaa, where it was victorious in destroying an Imperial dockyard and a Star Destroyer.[25] New Republic starfighter units, including Vanguard Squadron, responded to an Imperial incursion in the Bormea sector, as well as participating in the Battle of Yavin Prime against the ISD Victorum, where they captured the Imperial vessel. New Republic starfighters then defended the Victorum while en route to the Nadiri Dockyards.[9]

    AnvilSquadrons
Starfighter forces participated in many engagements during the Galactic Civil War.

After this, the Galactic Empire embarked on a mission to Hosnian Prime, where it rescued an Imperial Security Bureau agent from an orbital outpost. As such, the Imperial forces fought against scores of New Republic Starfighter Corps personnel and starfighters, as well as New Republic fleet forces. New Republic X-wing starfighters fought against Imperial forces during a battle above Desevro, unsuccessful in defending a fleet convoy. Subsequently, Vanguard Squadron launched a strike on Esseles before they launched an ambush at the Zavian Abyss on the ISD Overseer. New Republic starfighter corps units then attacked an Imperial dockyard with a large force, but were repelled. When the Empire conducted the scouring of Mon Cala, the New Republic's Anvil Squadron and other starfighters engaged in defense, while other starfighters defended against an Imperial attack at Nadiri Dockyards. After the battle at Nadiri Dockyards, Imperial forces hunted down the Republic in a battle in the Ringali Nebula junkyard, fighting against naval and starfighter Republic assets while Hail Squadron resecured the dockyards. New Republic starfighter forces then participated in the Battle of Galitan, a major naval engagement.[9]

    The end draws near

New Republic Starfighter Corps forces participated in the Battle of Jakku on various fronts.

New Republic Starfighter Corps forces also participated in the major Cerberon system campaign, with the defense fleet's Barma Battle Group's Alphabet Squadron, Meteor Squadron, and Vanguard Squadrons.[23] New Republic Y-wing starfighter/bombers attacked an Imperial Security Bureau black-site prison on the Hyborean Moon,[26] while at least twenty-four New Republic starfighter squadrons[12] participated in the successful Kuat Offensive, a major New Republic effort to capture the Imperial Kuat shipyards. New Republic starfighter forces also participated in the liberation of Kashyyyk[26] as well as defending against Imperial invasions of Naboo.[13]

Multiple New Republic starfighter forces, including Shepherd Squadron, participated in the Battle of Fondor Shipyards when they attacked the Imperial-held territory for a second time[27] following an earlier unsuccessful attack on Fondor.[19] Throughout the time in the aftermath of the Battle of Endor, the New Republic Starfighter Corps participated in defense of the Empire's Operation: Cinder, a campaign waged by the Imperial Military against loyal Imperial worlds. Many New Republic Starfighter Corps forces, in conjunction with New Republic Defense Fleet forces and New Republic Army forces, participated in the Battle of Jakku, the final climactic engagement of the Galactic Civil War. New Republic starfighter forces engaged Imperial units in orbit, in atmosphere, and on the surface of Jakku. The New Republic's victory on Jakku brought about the signing of the Galactic Concordance and the end of the war.[5]

    Post-war

    Patrol and piracy

Following the end of the Galactic Civil War, New Republic starfighter forces were tasked with patrolling the galaxy[28] and responding to incidents.[29] In 7 ABY,[30] a number of New Republic A-wing interceptors helped enforce a blockade of Substation Grimdock along with a New Republic Defense Fleet against pirate forces.[31] In 9 ABY,[24] the Adelphi Rangers responded to the Bothan-Five incident, during which bounty hunters attacked a CR-225T Correctional Transport.[29] During the pirate siege on Nevarro, New Republic Adelphi Rangers officer Captain Carson Teva attempted to intervene but was blocked by the Requisitions department.[11]

Around the same time, New Republic Starfighter Corps forces were part of the fleet led by General Hera Syndulla from Home One as they responded to several incidents, including the attack on the Vesper[20] and an incident on Seatos.[32][33] Also at around this time, New Republic starfighters responded to a pirate invasion of At Attin, a hidden Jewel of the Old Republic.[34]

    Cold War

In 21 ABY,[30] Halo Squadron responded to an attack on a freighter by the Sith Eternal, though unknown to the squadron.[35] In 28 ABY,[30] Leia Organa, former senator of the New Republic Senate and general in the Rebel Alliance, formed the private paramilitary group known as the Resistance, which began to recruit members from the New Republic Starfighter Corps to build out its own Resistance Starfighter Corps to combat the First Order, a faction born out of remnants from the Old Galactic Empire.[36] In 34 ABY,[30] after years of a Cold War between the Resistance and the First Order erupted into full galactic conflict when the First Order destroyed the New Republic during the Hosnian Cataclysm.[36]
