- "This may in fact be the slowest creature in the galaxy."
- ―Obi-Wan Kenobi
The jamels were a yellow-skinned, quadrupedal creature native to the planet Utapau.[1] The creature had tall, spindly legs, a large hump on their backs, and a drawn-out face with a red snout. Jamels were used as beasts of burden by the Utapau Amani.[2] During the Clone Wars, Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker found a jamel near an Amani village during their mission to Utapau and used it to pull a cart carrying a massive kyber crystal.[1]
Behind the scenes
The jamel, albeit unidentified, first appeared in "Crystal Crisis," the third episode of the unfinished arc of Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series, "Crystal Crisis on Utapau," as part of The Clone Wars Legacy.[1] The creature was designed by concept artist Pat Presley, who drew inspiration from real-world camels. The species was later identified as "jamel" on a StarWars.com news post, "Monsters of The Clone Wars: A Season Six Bestiary."[2]
