"But it's just that, there's someone here to see you."
    "It can wait."
    "But it's pirates!"
    ―CU-28 and Greef Karga[2]

CU-28[1] was a protocol droid that served as the assistant to High Magistrate Greef Karga on the planet Nevarro during the early New Republic Era.[2]

    Behind the scenes

CU-28 first appeared, albeit unidentified, in the third season premiere episode of the live-action television series Star Wars: The Mandalorian,[2] released on March 1, 2023.[3] The droid was designed and sculpted by Timothy Reed Martin. Martin had originally designed the model for[4] the rusty droid 0-TK in the 2019 fan-film "Birth of a Monster: A Star Wars Story," which was portrayed by[5] The Mandalorian droid performer[6] Daniel Bohman.[5] In The Mandalorian, the character was voiced by Parvesh Cheena and performed by Chris Bartlett and was simply credited as "Nevarro Copper Droid".[2]

The droid was later identified as CW-24 through a preview for upcoming Star Wars: Droid Factory figures to be released on February 6, 2026.[7] Martin noted that CW-24 was named in tribute to[4] Greef Karga's actor Carl Weathers who died in 2024.[8] However, the name was then changed to CU-28 prior to the product's release.[9]
