You have a small mind, Earthborn. You see only the past, only a dream of the past. But you did not know the barren feeding ground of Pegasus. You did not know the great hunger. Had we stayed in Pegasus, we would have died -- died fighting over the humans, died of hunger in our wretched long sleeps. But here...? Here there is no hunger. Here, my people thrive. And with the army I am building, we will return to Pegasus in triumph -- we will exterminate our enemies and retake our feeding grounds for ourselves alone. And we will take this galaxy too. The parasites carry in their minds all the knowledge of their kind -- and now it is ours. Now, we know the secrets of this place and we will take it. All of it.Shadow
Shadow was a Hive queen who, in an alternate timeline, took control of Atlantis and used it to invade Earth.
Biography
Background
In around 2040, Shadow finds Atlantis after the city runs out of power and surfaces. Shadow and her sister Brightstar are able to restore power to the city-ship, graft Wraith elements onto it and find a Wraith worshipper with the ATA gene who can fly it. Taking Atlantis to Earth, the Wraith invade the planet which has already fallen to a Goa'uld invasion and engage in a war for control that leaves millions dead. During a battle, Brightstar's hive ship is fatally damaged and lands near the ruins of Stargate Command while Brightstar dies giving birth to her daughter, Queen Earthborn. Eventually, only the System Lord Hecate continues to fight along with Dix's Resistance.
Before her death Brightstar, and afterwards Earthborn and those who remain loyal to her, disagree with Shadow's practice of "farming" humans as food rather than hunting them as prey as the Wraith are born to do. As a part of this, Shadow uses captured Goa'uld sarcophagi to restore the lives of the captive humans fed upon by the Wraith, allowing the Wraith to drain the same people of life numerous times. Both Brightstar and Earthborn desire to return the Wraith to the Pegasus galaxy and their own way of life, but Shadow controls Atlantis, albeit only to a degree due to lacking anyone with the Ancient gene once the worshipper who piloted the city was presumably fed upon.
Shadow also begins working on creating Goa'uld-Wraith Hybrids to use as an army against both the Goa'uld and the Wraith back in Pegasus. (SG1: "Hostile Ground", "Exile", "Insurrection")
2098
Following the arrival of SG-1 in 2098 and the discovery that Colonel Jack O'Neill possesses the Ancient gene needed to control Atlantis, Queen Earthborn forms an alliance with them against Queen Shadow. With both desiring for the Wraith to be gone, SG-1 and Earthborn agree to work together to take Atlantis from Shadow and use it to return the Wraith to Pegasus. (SG1: "Hostile Ground", "Exile")
The Tau'ri and Earthborn's forces later launch a joint strike against Shadow's feeding camp in Scotland where she has a lab for the creation of her Goa'uld-Wraith Hybrids. This triggers a civil war between the two Wraith factions, but Sobek-Boneshard and Harold Maybourne -- now a Wraith worshipper -- manage to escape with a tank full of Goa'uld symbiotes for Shadow's continued experimentation. (SG1: "Exile")
SG-1 also forges an alliance with Hecate who claims to be developing a toxin that will destroy Shadow's hybrids. SG-1 and Sting raid the Goa'uld-Wraith Hybrid creation lab on Atlantis, destroying it and capturing Sobek-Boneshard. However, O'Neill and Major Samantha Carter soon after learn that Hecate was responsible for sending them into the future. Hecate reveals that she actually intends to wipe out the Wraith, and take the hybrids for herself, warning Maybourne that SG-1 and Earthborn are coming.
Using the Time Jumper, O'Neill and Dr. Daniel Jackson bring Earthborn and two of her blades to Atlantis where they are captured by Shadow's forces. Daniel exposes Maybourne's treachery, causing Shadow to feed on him and form a tentative alliance with Earthborn against Hecate. O'Neill reveals his ability to fly Atlantis and takes the control chair, ostensibly to fight against Hecate on Shadow's behalf, but in reality to take control of the city from her.
As Shadow's cruiser engages Hecate's Ha'tak, Earthborn makes her move, attacking her aunt. Although Earthborn is no match for her in a battle of minds, Hearten intervenes on his queen's behalf, giving Earthborn the chance to draw a knife and slit Shadow's throat. With the dying queen defiant until the end, Earthborn stabs her through the chin and into the brain, killing Queen Shadow. With their queen dead, Shadow's forces bow to Earthborn, giving her control of all of the Wraith forces on Earth. (SG1: "Insurrection")
