The Thing record store
Ok so I was off from work for 2 days this week and went with Stephanie to her doctors appointment in Greenpoint Monday so we could eat lunch together before my Downlow rehearsal. While I waited for her, I went wandering around the area and Manhattan Ave. I saw a Salvation Army store and went to look at what records and tapes they had, but the selection was minimal. As I walked through the store, I saw my old friend Andrew and we talked for a bit, about music and bands and other stuff and I mentioned to him I was looking for records. He says "Ok if you're looking for records, you need to check this place out 2 blocks up the street. They have a lot of cool stuff and books too" Ok a hot tip from the street! So I walked down the block and there it was. They had a small record rack outside and a book cart and the place looked really interesting. The clerks looked like a cross between bikers, metalheads and Spinaltap and I wandered around the store. I caught a glimpse of records in the back and walked towards them. HOLY SHIT Then I saw all of them. I hit the holy graiL! Records in crates everywhere! I was astounded. I was short of breath. Then I saw a staircase to the basement. No way. YES WAY! The entire basement was FILLED with LP's. Crates and crates and crates. I would probably say more than any record store i've ever seen in NYC or anywhere else for that matter. And no order to anything! It was mindblowing. You gotta check this place out. I'm going back to spend a day there one day just hunting their bins. I left there in total amazement.
