I’ve been testing Scribus for a few months and I’m impressed with how much functionality you get for free. It definitely takes some patience to learn coming from other publishing software, but once you get the hang of it, it handles brochures, posters, and even multi‑page documents really well. The open‑source community support is also a big plus. It reminded me a lot of how some streaming apps balance power with accessibility for example, I’ve also been using [Magis TV] when I want simple, reliable entertainment. Scribus gives a similar vibe in publishing: not flashy like the big paid tools, but very effective once you master it.

The scrolling is so jerky and horrible it renders the application unusable. I have tried modifying the settings but there is no sweet spot. It also will not load my fonts properly; it only wants to load the Light and Light Italic, and none of the other 12 styles of the font I am trying to use (Mac Sonoma 14.6.1).

I have used Indesign for years but have recently started using Linux. Scribus surprised me. I can get a lot done in Scribus when combined with Gimp. The interface is a little messy but hey this program is free and doesn't take long to get used to it. Every now and then I switch to Indesign for a more complex and precise design. I haven't used Scribus on the PC yet but I might give it a go too.
