I'm really sorry that I had to post this story although it's not beta read. But as time is running out and the Christmas Hell seems to be breaking loose, I kind of had no other choice.

A Daughter's Lament
by icecream_junkie

She knew that everyone had a hard time being away from their families over Christmas. But that didn't change the fact that it nearly killed her.

Dr. Jennifer Keller had always been close to her Dad. After all, to each other the two of them were everything they had left. Therefore it was particularly tough for her not to be with him on Christmas or their birthdays.

She smiled ruefully when she thought about the tree. They used to put it up and decorate it at some point during the middle of December while they listened to their favourite Christmas songs. In the end, they always laughed about the shear mass of glittering ornaments and blinking lights they had managed to put on the tree.

Jen if her Dad had already put up the tree this year...

And then there were the massive amounts of snow which they usually had in Wisconsin. She missed the snow. When she was younger her Dad had build a snowman with her when it first snowed.

She vividly remembered the one year - she couldn't have been older then 5 - when she demanded her Dad would clear out the freezer so the poor snowman could be saved from the sun which slowly melted him.

Silently she wondered if her Dad would build a snowman now that he was all alone...

Then her thoughts drifted into a very unwelcome direction. What, if she would never have the chance to celebrate Christmas with her Dad again?

Dr. Jennifer Keller bit her lip. No, she wouldn't allow herself to think something like this. She blinked away the tears, wiped her eyes and buried herself in her work so she wouldn't have to think about Christmas anymore.
