He had already had breakfast that day. There was no reason to go to the mess hall again – besides maybe that it was the only chance he would have to go over some details with Dr. Weir before he left for P2R-715.

It was all Beckett’s fault. If the Scottish doctor hadn’t chosen that day to lecture Dr. Weir on the importance of nutrition once more, they would have never entered the mess hall together.

And if Colonel Sheppard hadn’t chosen that exact moment to block their way while arguing with McKay about who was the best villain in the history of film, they would have never stopped right after entering the room.

If Dr. Weir had just not interfered by mockingly pointing out that they shouldn’t forget about the evil queen from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Sheppard might have never noticed it.

But since all divine powers seemed to be against him today, one thing had lead to another.

He had known that he was doomed when Sheppard lost interest in his conversation with Rodney and started to grin at them.

“Major, would you please look up.” his grinning CO had said.

A little bit puzzled he had done as he was asked and soon regretted it.

He had managed to avoid the mistletoe somebody had brought back from earth for about two weeks now. But today it seemed he had run out of luck.

“Seems like the two of you owe us a kiss.” a still grinning Sheppard said.

“But, Sir, it wouldn’t be appropriate.” Lorne tried to get out of it. But he should have known from the look on his CO’s face that he wouldn’t be able to avoid it.

“It’s tradition, Major. And if I have to, I’ll make it an order. Oh and don’t believe for one second that you can get away with a chaste peck on the cheek. We wanna see a real kiss.”

That was how he ended up with Dr. Weir in his arms kissing her in front of at least half the expedition members.

Lorne silently wondered if he was out of his mind.
