About Stephen Holland

Stephen is a Classic Movies writer at Screen Rant. Formerly a reporter for The Irish Independent and The Sligo Champion, he has also been published in other outlets such as the Sunday World, Connacht Tribune, and Knewz.com. With experience covering crime, human-interest, politics, and social justice movements, pop culture and entertainment always stood out as his favorite stories to pursue. Stephen also writes, produces, and presents his own music podcast series on Spotify called Sound Thinking, which explores off-beat or underrepresented genres. This podcast takes a deep dive into the careers of different artists and bands, such as Bob Dylan, David Bowie, and The Kinks.

Industry Focus

Stephen has a Masters in Journalism from the University of Galway and previously worked as an English teacher around the world in countries including France and Vietnam. While completing his MA, Stephen received the award for Radio Production of the Year at the Irish Student Media Awards (SMEDIA) for his documentary ‘Nun Left Behind’, which explores Ireland’s complex relationship with religion through the lived experiences of religious sisters.

Favorite Media

Stephen’s love for media stretches back to his earliest memories of enjoying classic cartoons like Cow and Chicken, Dexter’s Lab, Dragon Ball Z, and The Simpsons. Before long, this interest had extended to prestige series like Breaking Bad, Mad Men, The Sopranos and Twin Peaks or British comedies such as the Armando Iannucci Shows, Fleabag, and Peep Show. He has a great love for film and directors like Ingmar Bergman, Alfred Hitchcock, Akira Kurosawa, David Lynch, and Martin Scorsese. With a broad interest in action, comedy, drama, and international film, one of Stephen’s most enjoyable hobbies is checking out every nominated movie at the Academy Awards and making his predictions about who will take home that elusive Oscar.
