The Effect of Mesenchymal Stem Cells on Fertility in Experimental Retrocervical Endometriosis

Abstract: Purpose To evaluate the effect of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) on fertility in experimental retrocervical endometriosis. Methods A total of 27 New Zealand rabbits were divided into three groups: endometriosis, in which endometrial implants were created; mesenchymal, in which MSCs were applied in addition to the creation of endometrial implants; and control, the group without endometriosis. Fisher's exact test was performed to compare the dichotomous qualitative variables among the groups. The quantitative var… Show more

“…Adiposederived MSCs (AD-MSCs) are readily accessible and secrete abundant angiogenic factors. For reproductive disorders, amniotic membrane-derived MSCs (A-MSCs) and menstrual bloodderived MSCs (MenSCs) are particularly attractive due to their ethical acceptability, non-invasive collection (MenSCs), and inherent tissue relevance [4,11,[24][25][26][27].…”

Exaggerated anticipatory anxiety is common in social anxiety disorder (SAD). Neuroimaging studies have revealed altered neural activity in response to social stimuli in SAD, but fewer studies have examined neural activity during anticipation of feared social stimuli in SAD. The current study examined the time course and magnitude of activity in threat processing brain regions during speech anticipation in socially anxious individuals and healthy controls (HC). Method Participants (SAD n = 58; HC n = 16) underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during which they completed a 90s control anticipation task and 90s speech anticipation task.

“…Non-primate animal models of induced endometriosis have been crucial in the study of endometriosis. Some of the animals in this group include rabbits [ 182 , 183 , 184 ], rats [ 185 , 186 , 187 ] and mice [ 188 , 189 ]. These models are used to study the mechanisms involved in endometriosis that are not possible to examine in larger mammals.…”

“…Although BMDCs decreased in situ TNF-α and VEGFR levels, they did not affect lesion size [264]. In another study, bone marrow-derived MSCs were injected locally into an endometriotic implant in a rabbit endometriosis model [265]. The MSC group had significantly more intra-abdominal adhesions and a lower pregnancy rate than did the control group, and no reduction in implant size with MSC treatment was noted [265].…”
