Young Hungarian Students’ Knowledge about HPV and Their Attitude Toward HPV Vaccination

Abstract: (1) Background: Hungarys’s estimated cervical cancer mortality was 6.9/100,000 in 2012, above the average of the EU27 countries (3.7/100,000) in the same year. Since 2014, the bivalent HPV vaccine has been offered to schoolgirls aged 12–13. (2) Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study among 1022 high school seniors (492 girls, 530 boys) in 19 randomly selected schools in Budapest. Our anonymous questionnaire contained 54 items: basic socio-demographic data, knowledge about HPV infection/cervical cancer an… Show more

“…Spanish medical students also had a later age of sexual initiation, as in our study, but medical students from our study had the same HPV vaccination rates as their non‐medical counterparts. In our study, students had poorer knowledge about HPV vaccination, lower HPV‐related cancer awareness and lower vaccination rates than that reported in most of other European studies 11,12,16,17 . However, vaccination rates in our present study were much higher than in our previous study of female medical students only 8 .…”

Exaggerated anticipatory anxiety is common in social anxiety disorder (SAD). Neuroimaging studies have revealed altered neural activity in response to social stimuli in SAD, but fewer studies have examined neural activity during anticipation of feared social stimuli in SAD. The current study examined the time course and magnitude of activity in threat processing brain regions during speech anticipation in socially anxious individuals and healthy controls (HC). Method Participants (SAD n = 58; HC n = 16) underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during which they completed a 90s control anticipation task and 90s speech anticipation task.

“…In a study conducted in a developed country, it was reported while primer information source related HPV was healthcare professionals, media organs (television, internet, newspaper) were found at a lower rate [22]. In contrast to study performed by Giambi et al, previous studies from the developing countries found that media organs were showed as primer information source compared to healthcare professionals and our nding was consistent with these studies [21,[23][24][25]. As in developed countries, it is expected that health information should be disseminated to society via healthcare professionals and academic channels.…”

“…The importance of HPV education and its vaccine is to enable the public to make a conscious choice about vaccination, knowing the risks of HPV infection and vaccine protection. 8 Similar to what was shown in our study, Balla et al 9 observed that among high-school seniors in Hungary, few had sufficient knowledge regarding HPV infection: although most acknowledged its association with cervical cancer, their knowledge of other diseases was limited. Those authors also reported better knowledge on the part of female students.…”
