Open cargo bay of the Space Shuttle revealing the Ulysses spacecraft before deployment. The spacecraft was mounted on top of two propulsion modules, the Inertial Upper Stage (IUS) and the Payload Assisted Module (PAM). After deployment, the two-stage IUS was fired first, followed by the PAM, and Ulysses was injected into its interplanetary orbit.
