all_unwritten Prompt 1: In the Beginning
Paul sat at his desk, head in his hands and sighed. He’d been sitting in that exact same position for the past 2 hours. Just looking at the blank document on his computer. And every once in a while, he’d glance over at the books strew across his bed, flipped open to random pages. It should have made sense. It was just an essay on the Noble Lie. Creation used as a tool to keep the peasants in place. Sometime about Gold and other metals all mixed up and Plato was involved somehow. And then there was the allegory of the cave, something to do with the Matrix… and a chair. Or, was it the idea of a chair, or the idea of the truest form of a chair.
Paul sighed again and rubbed his palms over his face.
This was getting him no where.
He really wanted to be interested in this, he tried to go to class and pay attention. But none of it made any sense to him. It was all circular logic, and arguments based on wild theories. It was retarded, and it only made him feel worse to know that NO ONE else could see it. Because, apparently, he was the only person in class who thought The Republic was horseshit.
He shouldn’t have just written what the professor asked for, just chose a topic from the list and written a well quoted paper on why the Philosopher Kings would make great rulers, or if the Utopia was in direct contrast to the Greek ideology of moderation.
But the only thing he could think about at the moment was getting something to eat. He could contemplate the true form of lasagna while he watched reruns of Matlock.
