Oh, Anne -- Such the bad luck

Last night was the season finale of "The Tudors" on Showtime. While I do watch rather more TV that I care to say, what the hell -- there is some really good TV on TV these days. How could I choose between "Sand Castles in the Sand" (by the talented Robin Sparkles) and watching poor Anne ready herself for a public beheading?

I have to admit, I found the first season of Tudors somewhat tedious. It was all, "I'm old, but I'm still your wife" from Catherine and "Um, yeah, but the hot girl over there ..." from Henry and "politics politics" from everyone else.  I had a bit of a hard time keeping track of all the bearded, be-tighted men, too.

But the 2nd season! Ah yes, all about Anne getting to be queen, and then royally screwing it up. Poor thing.  Other portrayals of her have been far less sympathetic.  This one? By the end of last nights season finale, I was literally crying for her fate. I haven't been so moved by a the combination of writing, acting, and filming in a long time.  But, it was the sweet spot for me ... bravery in the face of impossible circumstances is the one thing that always gets me.  That's why I love disaster movies, books about historic tragedies, and the end of Terminator 2.
