The UNSC spent the entire Human-Covenant War losing. Any victory was pyrrhic, any reprieve a delay of the inevitable.
The only reason humanity survived and technically "won" is because the Covenant imploded into civil war when the entire foundation of their shared religion was pulled out from under them; and humanity allied themselves with the winning faction.
Also, genuinely: you are not giving US Soldiers a Spartan-level advantage. That is not possible. They have coated bones like fucking Wolverine. That is not currently possible technology. It was barely possible with their sci-fi tech, they killed half of them in surgery.
Please do not kill half the US military by giving them sci-fi surgery, that's over a million people. Killing a million people is bad.
