Tired Now
So after my fantastico classes today, our suites began what I'm sure will be a month straight of watching Buffy. Megan's boyfriend is in town and he's never seen it, so we have begun the edumacation process (spelling on purpose). Then I got dragged away to a marathon program directors meeting for Anime which took far longer than it should have. There was lots of bitching and gossip sharing and all those good things that happen when girls get together, though work did actually get accomplised. Then after that it was suddenly decided that we needed to see Underworld: Evolution tonight. I had thought we were going to see it tomorrow so that Jeni could come (she was working tonight), but that was not the case.
See, I didn't even like the first Underworld - a great concept squashed by bad writing and poorly thought-out mythology, not to mention Kate's accent makes me giggle in a way it shouldn't - so I wasn't particularly interested in seeing this one. But, I was dragged along anyways. I was not disappointed in the badness of it. Not only am I distracted the entire time by my desire to feed Kate a sandwich, but again, the mythology of the story was poorly thought out and structured. For those of you who haven't seen the first one, you really need to. This movie pretty much picks up where the first one left off, which again, does not help the mythology of the piece.
There's a moment towards the end, where Selene takes great power from whatshisface (like it matters) and then, for the next fifteen minutes (real time, not movie time), she's fucking normal. Not like, that eerily calm normal either. She should be seething with power, it should be rippling just beneath her skin, coursing through her veins, mingling with all the rage that's been building over the past few days events. Her lover's dead, her clan has betrayed her more than once, everything she thought she knew was a lie. She should not be sitting calmly waiting for the helicopter to find the right place to drop her. She should be shoving her way out of that helicopter and hunting, she should reach her climax the moment the movie does. The movie is pretty much made up of squandered moments like that, and while the action scenes are very well done, I want more with my blood and 'plosions.
And speaking of climaxes, the sex scene? Funniest fucking scene in the whole movie. There are only about three wide shots in the sequence (the rest are those shoulder/arm perspective shots that translate as "sex" onscreen) that show the entirety of their bodies. The first two? Not actually possible to have sex like that. Or, for him to actually possess a penis. Unless it's...attached to his thigh which, eww. It was like a bad fanfic on film. I mean just awful. Her back was arched in a way that could not have been comfortable and until the last of the three wide shots, they were just dry humping at her bellybutton. Which was weird because normally, when there's nakedness, there's no need for dry humping. There can be wet humping (unless of course, you're going for frottage, which is totally hot and needs to be written more *ahem*).
So, if you liked the first one, this one is more of the same. If you didn't, it's probably not for you, but you should rent it when it comes out just to see the sex scene. Trust me, it's worth it.
Just not in that way.
And I still haven't made it through all of my flist yet and I haven't gotten a chance to comment on any of the episode discussion that's going on, which is saddening. I'm also behind on comments, but all of that I'll get to tomorrow. Right now, I require sleep.
