Definition
The moon is the single natural satellite of Earth.
Also known as
The moon is often called by its Latin name Luna, for various reasons:
- Poetic, see for example Luna by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
- In various scientific contexts, to distinguish it from the natural satellites of other planets, which are also referred to as moons.
It can also be referred to just as Moon, but again this is rare outside of poetry.
