The Cogs were the mechanical servants who serve as the foot soldiers of the Machine Empire.

History

Zeo

The Cogs can only be defeated by short circuiting or disassembly, and are produced at the rate of one per hour. Their helmet can open up and fire eye beams at their targets. Their primary weapons are spears with an electric charge tip, some could also fire blasts of energy. The Cogs also come in two colors with a silver or gunmetal body as well as piloting the Quadrafighters.

Like the Tenga Warriors before them, Cogs are capable of fluently speaking English, albeit in a monotone robotic voice.

In Space

The Cogs are seen with the Machine Empire during the reunion of the United Alliance of Evil. TV STORY-From Out of Nowhere

A Cog was later seen on Onyx. TV STORY-Flashes of Darkonda

The Cogs in the Machine Emire and General Havoc's army as seen in "Countdown to Destruction".

Both versions of Cogs participate at the conquest of the universe where they are part of the Machine Empire and General Havoc's army in their invasion on the Phantom Ranger's home planet. They were seemingly all destroyed by the Z-Wave. TV STORY-Countdown to Destruction

Wild Force

However, in "Forever Red", it was revealed that General Venjix had an army of Cogs under his command until they were defeated by a team of Red Rangers led by Tommy Oliver. The end of General Venjix, the other Four Generals and the last Cogs mark the end of the Machine Empire. TV STORY-Forever Red

Memories and Salvation

A squad of Prototype Cogs with similar abilities to the normal variety were deployed by Prototype Tezzla and the Unforgettable Alliance to steal Paradrium. They may have succeeded in stealing enough that they could be upgraded to combine into The Machine

Personality

The Cogs may seem as though they are simply obedient out of a mass-produced calling to servitude, but despite their boilerplate personalities, they are highly intelligent, being able to pilot the Quadrafighters and being able to hack into Jennifer's computer to create the monster Silo out of spare parts from a junkyard.

Powers and Abilities

Powers

• Strength: Single punches from the Cogs were strong enough to lay out the Rangers on the floor.
• Durability: The Cogs were almost completely immune to punches and kicks from the Rangers.
• Eye Beams: The Cogs can flip up their faceplates and unleash massive blue energy beams from their eyes strong enough to take down all five Rangers with one blast.

Abilities

• Expert Fighter Pilots: The Cogs are skilled fighter pilots since they proved to be very capable in their Quadrafighters.
• Speech: Some Cogs are capable of speech in a monotone, robotic voice.

Weaknesses

• Vulnerability to Sleep: Cogs can also be put to sleep, as seen when they were affected by Somnibot's sleep ability.
• Cynophobia: Cogs are afraid of dogs and other canine species, which react angrily towards them. This fear extends to dog-like aliens like Sirians

• Spears: The Cogs carry large silver spears with razor sharp golden tips that can fire energy blasts.
• Fists: The Cogs utilize their fists exclusively in combat, relying on their strength to lead them to victory.

Design

Three variations of Cogs are used in Zeo, two of which are apparent in original American footage:

• Gunmetal gray Cogs are present in reused Ohranger clips.
• Rust red Cogs are the second category, and based on their appearance, may be low-ranking.
• Chromatic Cogs are the third category, bearing suits with a holographic metallic sheen, and may represent the most advanced rank.

Etymology

A cog is a type of wheel with teeth used to drive machinery of which the cog is a component, including other interconnected cogs. This fits with the Machine Empire's use of their foot soldiers as tools of war.
