Watching "Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters" for some escapist fun tonight. Only ten minutes in or so, and it's violent and utterly ridiculous, and I'm enjoying it immensely ^^ Kickass brother-sister team ftw!

Still trying to kick this cold I've had for almost a month now. Lingering cough stage, which is probably the cause for this inflamed chest cartilage thing I've got going on - feels disconcertingly like every description of a heart attack, sort of a clenching pain right in the middle of your chest, hurts to breath, and it kind of comes on suddenly, but after a bit you figure out you're breathing just fine even if it hurts, and your heart is beating away as usual. It's happened before after lingering cough-type colds, so I knew what was going on, but even then in the grocery store where it hurt too much to reach for the groceries on the upper shelves I kept double-checking - still pretty sure this isn't a heart attack? Yep, breathing, functioning, probably not gonna die, very good. I can see why it sends people to the emergency room, though! Feels much better today, just mildly sore. I can pretend I'm a gestalt member missing my gestalt ^_~

Hansel & Gretel update - don't watch if you'll be squicked by exploding gory body parts! Only half-watching, but still quite fun.

I now haz faster internets! I've had an AT&T dsl line (3mbps) since whenever I first got internets, which has been fine for my purposes, but the rates kept going up, and they kept pushing their fancy new UVerse thingy at me, so finally had some time off to investigate. $200 gift card, $150 for equipment and installation, lower rate than what I was paying for dsl, seemed like a win win...except when I actually went to sign up it was somehow $100 gift card and $200 for equipment and installation. Hrm. So cancelled that one and went with the Comcast Xfinity option - similar monthly rate (for the first year at least, then things get pricier), only $25 installation. Which, since they were running late and missed their installation appointment, I get $20 off that, w00t! So now I'm zipping along at 25mbps, no more spinny waiting for websites, so that's nice. AT&T somehow didn't ~actually~ cancel my cancellation, and the UVerse installer showed up anyway, so spent another 20 minutes on the phone making sure my cancellation was actually really cancelled. Also my dentist appointment that I rescheduled didn't actually get rescheduled, so had to call them back to actual reschedule my reschedule. I seem to be in a scheduling confusion vortex recently, don't know what's up with that.

My other investigatory adventure has been cars - RAV4 developed transmission issues about a month ago, took it in and they replaced a valve thingy, fixed for a few days and the same issue redeveloped, took in again and discovered that there's a known computer issue with my 2003 model that affects the transmission, and they'll replace it up to 10 years old and 150,000 miles. My vehicle is 11 years old and 151,000 miles. =_= So forked out another thousand or so for the new computer, which...mostly fixed it, but it was still having glitches shifting here and there, just like it did before when it finally gave out...I was existing in a constant state of anxiety when driving, wondering if it was shifting better or worse, and I've got to have a reliable vehicle for work. Finally decided I needed to bite the bullet and checked out new-to-me used cars, even though my bank account is very very bare at the moment. I very much like the little Honda Fits! Smaller car than the RAV, but the back seating is very nifty, and just as advertised, folds down to give a pretty decent cargo area - could fit crates, critters, pond nets, etc. in there, plus good gas mileage...it's just, car payment. For five or six years. I'll be nearly 50 before I pay it off! D: And aging house infrastructure that is likely to need some expensive things in the next decade or so, and my financial safety margins are way out of my comfort zone right now, even though I know I am extremely lucky and privileged that this is even an option. But then, there's an adorable little blue-green Fit in my price range that looks like the cutest little frog baby!RAV, and my RAV doesn't really have working back seats and if I want to drive niece around in a few years, well then...but then after I took car in to be appraised (so old and battered only good for parts, as I suspected, my poor baby! I do get kind of attached to my vehicles)...it's been working beautifully the last several days. Transmission shifting away smooth as butter. So. Argh. What to do? Still waffling.

Took partly-blind stray kitty to a no-kill shelter finally yesterday, after being on the waiting list for awhile. Haven't had any luck finding his owner or a new home, and Gandalf was not happy with this new interloper threatening his top cat status in the household. No major fireworks, but he had a tendency to corner the new guy and loom threateningly at him, and barge in every time I tried to pet him. He's such a sweetie, so hopefully he'll find a good home soon where he can get all the pettings!

Did some artwork for the nature art exhibit at work this year - just took fabric bits and glued them down and outlined with 3-D fabric paint, so that was fun! In less fun, wrangling controversial topic on park social media pages, so getting nasty comments every day has been stressful to say the least. General policy is not to engage, but it's hard. PEOPLE ARE BEING WRONG ON THE INTERNET! I keep waking up at night and writing rational!convincing! replies to them in my head.

Still have lots of vacation time I need to use, so hopefully can get various work dilemmas chillaxed again and do a bit more writing, maybe cross post snippets and things, fun stuff like that ^_^

Have not started Christmas shopping. Eek.
