This article aims to show how narration can be classified as the main way in which the subject understands and transforms the external world. After pointing out how everyone is immersed, from birth, in innumerable predefined narratives, it will be argued, however, how human beings are able to create new narratives through an imaginative exploration of possibilities. This imaginative exploration is directed towards a projectuality concerning the future and, in this sense, narrative is the main means of symbolically constructing (...) a common future. Within the latter lie future generations who, it is argued, must be made part of our collective narrative. (shrink)

In this contribution I will show the ontology of eco-imagination for a sustainable future. Starting from the phenomenological framework proposed by Anna-Teresa Tymieniecka whereby the ontopoietic diffusion of the Logos of Life appears to be involved in the ferment of generative progress, I will first present the mechanism of the cognitive process proper to the perspective of realist phenomenology of one of Husserl’s most brilliant students, Dietrich von Hildebrand. The latter, distancing himself from the Husserlian transcendental turn, in line with (...) Tymieniecka, proposes a detailed analysis of consciousness in its constant penetration of the totality of nature, in its immersion within the unity of all that is alive. We shall see how for Hildebrand being-in-relation goes to ground the character of projectuality proper to the subject in action, on what it is based and in what such projectuality consists of. The essay attempts to shed light on some examples of the relationship between prescriptive and descriptive, norms and facts in comparative law. In particular, it examines: the methodological choices (in the alternative between normative paradigms and open pluralism), the ontology of the law (in the alternative between abstract dogmatism and experiential realism), the act of dividing the global spatiality into different units of legal meaning (in the alternative between neutral observation and constructive projectuality). Capturing the tension between doubt, displacement, (...) rupture (on the one side) and recovery, revision, creative renewal (on the other side) that has marked the genealogy of an “undisciplined discipline”, the Author proposes to assign it for the future a space of _inter-esse_, an interstitial threshold in which every binary opposition can be dynamically resolved. Entrepreneurship in industrial design entails the convergence and conflict of two distinct cultural logics: that of design and that of business. This self-organized mode of professional practice, increasingly prevalent in contemporary life, is shaped by a dominant ideological infrastructure rooted in global centers, which promotes so-called “success stories” based on economic performance. Such narratives often marginalize alternative practices and influence designers’ professional expectations, limiting the imagination of divergent or locally rooted trajectories. This article, derived from doctoral research, explores alternative ways (...) of understanding entrepreneurship in design by analyzing the discursive cultures adopted by industrial designers and how they reinterpret entrepreneurial activity in specific territorial contexts. The study is grounded in a multiple case analysis of eight entrepreneurial initiatives developed between 2009 and 2019 by graduates of the Faculty of Arts at the National University of La Plata, within the Buenos Aires Entrepreneurial Ecosystem (EEB). Methodologically, the research adopts a qualitative approach, using semi-structured interviews with designers and key informants. It is framed by an integrated analytical model that considers three interrelated dimensions: the designer-entrepreneur, the enterprise, and the ecosystem in which it unfolds. Through this lens, the study reconstructs entrepreneurial trajectories and examines how designers negotiate the intersection of professional identity, local context, and personal life projects. The findings highlight the ways in which designers articulate critical forms of self-organization, resisting hegemonic market logics and pursuing what the study terms projectual sovereignty—an autonomous and context-sensitive way of designing and living. More specifically, this book discusses how virtual worlds allow human beings to take new perspectives on their values and beliefs, and explore previously unexperienced ways of being. We owe our first graphic experiences to Neanderthal Man, who introduced to the cultural baggage of the genus Homo two metaphorical behaviors that are fundamental in terms of their innovation: one concerns the preservation of the bodies of the dead through burial, the other is the making of signs, which in this stage of evolution do not yet represent recognizable subjects but only lines. This attests to the creation of a graphical tool that materializes and makes visible that which exists (...) in the mind, something that is other than itself, thus providing signs of a communication that unfortunately today we cannot define semantically. We cannot say whether these linear marks are a sort of «brand» or if they are carriers of meanings, however, we can observe that, with the Neanderthals, a conceptual, projectual plan exists that enables the measurement of space and the configuration of a regular rhythm, creating an original condition of movement and an association of potentially dynamic lines. This paper explores the ethical implications of long-term, transgenerational projects through the lens of neo-republican theory, focusing on the issue of intergenerational domination. Traditional accounts of intergenerational justice often emphasize one-directional influence from present to future generations. This study proposes a threefold generational framework—the current generation (CG), subsequent generations (SGs), and remote generations (RGs)—to better capture the temporal complexity and multi-layered dependencies that define transgenerational projects such as radioactive waste management. Building on the concept of projectual reciprocity, the paper argues (...) that SGs do not merely receive pre-commitments from the CG but play a crucial role in the continuation or discontinuation of long-term projects, thereby holding a latent power over both the CG and RGs. This relational structure reveals a complex web of entangled dominations, where minimizing domination for one generational group may inadvertently increase it for another. Through comparative analysis of geological disposal and interim storage, the study critically reassesses the autonomy-related claims associated with each option and highlights the normative significance of reversibility and retrievability as mechanisms of intergenerational contestability. In this context, autonomy is redefined not as mere access to options, but as non-domination, following the neo-republican conception. The ethical concern lies not in the presence or absence of material harm per se, but in the extent to which RGs are structurally subordinated to the discretionary actions of their predecessors. By challenging conventional accounts of autonomy, the paper offers a revised framework for evaluating the legitimacy of transgenerational projects. (shrink)

Projectual abduction is the inference drawing the means to achieve an end. Planning a course of action is an inferential task and we claim that the relevant inference is abduction. We distinguish projectual abduction from epistemic abduction. While epistemic abduction aims to determine an explanatory relation, projectual abduction aims to determine a teleological relation. It is important to remind in any case that abduction does not stand by itself: as is true for epistemic abduction, projectual abduction has to be developed (...) and evaluated by subsequent deduction and induction. After defining projectual abduction in section 1, we focus on the relations between projectual abduction, normativity and truth in section 2. Then we sketch how projectual abduction works in artistic creativity , in evolutionary and teleological processes and finally in social processes. (shrink)

This paper draws on the notion of the ‘project,’ as developed in the existential philosophy of Heidegger and Sartre, to articulate an understanding of the existential structure of engagement with virtual worlds. By this philosophical understanding, the individual’s orientation towards a project structures a mechanism of self-determination, meaning that the project is understood essentially as the project to make oneself into a certain kind of being. Drawing on existing research from an existential-philosophical perspective on subjectivity in digital game environments, the (...) notion of a ‘virtual subjectivity’ is proposed to refer to the subjective sense of being-in-the-virtual-world. The paper proposes an understanding of virtual subjectivity as standing in a nested relation to the individual’s subjectivity in the actual world, and argues that it is this relation that allows virtual world experience to gain significance in the light of the individual’s projectual existence. The arguments advanced in this paper pave the way for a comprehensive understanding of the transformative, self-transformative, and therapeutic possibilities and advantages afforded by virtual worlds.
