Après avoir rappelé ce qu’est la version informatique du trans-humanisme et ses liens à la Singularité technologique, nous développons ici une réflexion sur le futur de l’Humanité, de l’humanisme et des humanités dans le contexte du développement rapide des technologies de l’information. La première partie rappelle les nombreuses annonces publiques qui prédisent une prochaine fin de l’Humanité. Nous analysons ensuite ce que signifie la fin de l’Humanité en distinguant d’abord la fin de l’espèce humaine de la fin de l’existence humaine. (...) La troisième partie étudie la signification d’une fin de l’humanisme, l’humanisme étant compris ici comme une philosophie qui considère que l’être humain est la valeur suprême. La dernière partie traite de la fin des humanités et conclut sur l’émergence d’un humanisme numérique qui donne un nouvel élan aux humanités. (shrink)

The very idea of humanity seems to be in crisis. Born in the ashes of devastation after the slaughter of millions, the liberal conception of humanity imagined a suffering victim in need of salvation. Today, this figure appears less and less capable of galvanizing the political imagination. But without it, how are we to respond to the inhumane violence that overwhelms our political and philosophical registers? How can we make sense of the violence that was carried out in the name (...) of humanism? And how can we develop more ethical relations without becoming parasitic on the pain of others? Through a critical exploration of violence and the sacred, Ecce Humanitas recasts the fall of liberal humanism. Brad Evans offers a rich analysis of the changing nature of sacrificial violence, from its theological origins to the exhaustion of the victim in the contemporary world. He critiques the aestheticization that turns victims into sacred objects, sacrificial figures that demand response, perpetuating a cycle of violence that is seen as natural and inevitable. In novel readings of classic and contemporary works, Evans traces the sacralization of violence as well as art’s potential to incite resistance. Countering the continued annihilation of life, Ecce Humanitas calls for liberating the political imagination from the scene of sacrifice. A new aesthetics provides a form of transgressive witnessing that challenges the ubiquity of violence and allows us to go beyond humanism to imagine a truly liberated humanity. (shrink)

El presente número de nuestra revista, dedicado a la inteligencia artificial, nos sitúa, desde la teología y la filosofía, ante su vertiginosa realidad, su naturaleza, su finalidad y su circunstancia como un acontecimiento epocal digno de ser pensado no sólo desde su compleja estructura tecnológica sino, sobre todo, desde sus fundamentos teóricos y sus consecuencias morales tanto individuales como sociales. Los artículos que se presentan en este número intentan, desde distintas perspectivas, realizar esta tarea logrando una visión de conjunto de (...) gran valor científico, penetración filosófica y elevación teológica que agradecemos profundamente. Al cierre de esta edición, el Papa León XIV ha publicado su carta encíclica Magnifica humanitas: sobre la custodia de la persona humana en el tiempo de la inteligencia artificial (15 de mayo de 2026). Was macht eine Intervention zu einer Humanitären? Was sind die moralischen Bewertungskriterien für eine solche Intervention? Welche Kraft haben diese Kriterien im Vergleich zu den völkerrechtlichen Regelungen? Was sind die speziellen moralischen Probleme Humanitärer Interventionen bzw. Humanitärer Interventions-Kriege verglichen mit den gängigen Problemen zwischenstaatlicher Gewalt? Und welche Lehren ziehen wir heute aus dem Kosovokrieg von 1999, der einen Großteil ehemaliger Pazifisten zu dezidierten Kriegsbefürwortern werden ließ? The human dimension within the climate change debate, involving the African ideals of Ubuntu, is persuasive and motivational in the fight against climate change. The chapter discusses the impact of Ubuntu praxis on the environment. It reflects on different forms of inequality that Ubuntu is strategically placed to addressed in the wake of climate change. Climate change has been linked to the loss of biodiversity, flooding, tsunamis and extreme heat waves, among other challenges. Our inclusion of an Ubuntu ethos in (...) the climate change debate is an effort to relate African humane virtues to growing concerns about deteriorating environmental and climatic conditions worldwide. We explore how African humanitas (Ubuntu) promotes and establishes an important environmental ethos. We posit that Ubuntu can serve as a valuable resource in the global response to climate change. Der Ausdruck ‚Krieg‘ kennt keine allgemein anerkannte Definition. Der Krieg ist, mit Clausewitz zu sprechen, eine gesellschaftliche Aktivität zum Zwecke der Regelung politischer Probleme durch Gewaltanwendung. Je nach Gesellschaftsstadium nimmt von daher der Krieg entwicklungsgeschichtlich sehr unterschiedliche Formen an. Nach einer begrifflichen Klärung liefert der Artikel einen Einblick in die Geschichte der Theorie des gerechten Kriegs und in die Begründungen der humanitären Intervention. Er schließt mit einem kurzen Überblick über den Pazifismus ab.

Cet article essaie de distinguer trois strates au sein de ce qu’il est convenu d’appeler « humanités numériques » ( hum num ) ou « humanités digitales ». Les hum num 1.0 font le travail concret de numérisation, balisage, reformatage, design d’interfaces en reprenant le plus souvent des corpus déjà identifiés et circonscrits. Les hum num 2.0 tirent de ce travail de numérisation l’opportunité de constituer de nouveaux corpus et d’expérimenter de nouvelles procédures et de nouvelles formes de collaboration, qui (...) débordent et érodent les frontières entre les disciplines, comme entre l’université et ses dehors. Les hum num 3.0 essaient de comprendre comment les pratiques et savoirs constitués depuis des siècles autour des humanités peuvent nous aider à comprendre et à nous repérer dans les façons dont le numérique informe de plus en plus profondément nos modes de subjectivation. The movement from Greek paideia to Roman humanitas gives a clue into how the ancients conceived of the goals of the state and the means adopted to prepare citizens for the attainment of such goals. In these two ancient educational practices, evidences of how they conceived of the challenges of their time were found, as the formative ideals proposed to prepare citizens for the challenges and their ambiental peculiarities. The process, understanding and intricacies of this movement cannot but strike (...) the curiosity of the modern African, whose educational ideals were laid on them, but whose practice of education is progressively moving away from them. Hence, the contemporary society needs to learn from the practice of ancient formation, which will create a bridge that happily adopts ancient values that can be of great assistance and serve as a template for authentic cultural development in Africa. L'anthropologie de Merleau-Ponty déplace la question de l'humanité en direction d'un questionnement de type ontologique, ayant vocation à redéfinir les catégories de l'expérience, et d'une philosophie de la nature qui seule peut rendre compte du phénomène humain.

This article presents an in-depth analysis of the work of Henri Maldiney and, more specifically, of his unique contribution to social psychiatry. It highlights the importance of the interrelationship between art, madness and humanity in Maldiney’s thinking. Maldiney, whose work has sometimes been considered marginal within traditional philosophy, redefines the essence of the human by focusing not on the majority rational norm, but on the singular, even extreme, behaviours exemplified by artists and the mentally ill. The article thus questions the (...) conventional conception of madness as failure or defect and reconsiders it as a fundamental possibility of human existence. Through a detailed study of Daseinsanalysis and the contributions of Husserlian and Heideggerian phenomenology, it highlights how the notion of “openness” (Offenheit) is essential to the therapeutic and social relationship. In particular, Maldiney criticies the objectification inherent to the natural sciences and the consequences of this objectification for contemporary psychiatry. Through a discussion of developments in social psychiatry, notably the impact of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Soziale Psychiatrie (DGSP), the current article shows how Maldiney’s approach can inspire more open and inclusive models of care. There is a new myth of the heterogeneous that is reducing the concept of humanity to a sinful enlightenment. In this article I investigate the contribution that a renewed understanding of liberal arts education might offer for the idea of a humanist education and for the concept of humanity; and this at a time when not only the concept of humanity per se, and of a humanist education in particular are suspected of Western imperialism and rational logocentrism, but also, in (...) England at least, when the tuition fees of humanities students have trebled. I argue that within a concept of modern metaphysics first principles are re-formed to have their universality in instability and struggle. This instability and struggle is the modern culture of rational education, and speaks of a non-abstract comprehension of two of modernity’s most contested terms: freedom and humanity. (shrink)

The aim of this article is to provide a philosophical conceptual framework to understand the theoretical roots and political implications of the interpretations of Plato’s work in Jaeger’s Third Humanism and Krieck’s völkisch-racist pedagogy and anthropology. This article will seek to characterize, as figures of localitas, their conceptions of the individual, community, corporeality, identity, and the State that both authors developed departing from Platonic political philosophy. My main hypothesis is that Jaeger’s and Krieck’s interpretations of Platonic paideía shared several core-elements (...) based on a modern conception of State sovereignty and human will, whose fundamental ground is the subjectivist-technical metaphysics. The “production” of a human type (spiritual and/or racial) and a unitary State political community appears in both authors mediated by a theory of political education, that I define as «State typohumanism», that sought its sustenance in Plato’s political philosophy, mainly by means of a distorted understanding of the notions of týpos and ē̂thos, and that, I argue, played a key role in the intellectual legitimization of völkisch-racism. This would be broadly translated into a programmatic and literal understanding of the Platonic Republic which assumes that the inherent function of any State is to produce subjectivities based on national identities grounded on homogeneous characteristics. In these varied characterizations similar appropriations of humanitas have been expressed both in Jaeger and in Krieck. (shrink)

Some authors think that humanitarian interventions are always morally wrong. Others think that they are sometimes justified. In this paper, I argue that the international community has a moral duty to humanitarian intervention when it comes to mass murder, mass rape, genocide, ethnic cleansing, and deliberate starvation. It is argued that we all have good reasons to endorse an intervention norm protecting basic rights.

Jean-Claude Simard Les humanités numériques constituent un domaine en plein développement. On en donne ici un exemple en analysant le contenu d’une revue et l’évolution des idées qui s’y sont exprimées depuis son origine. Pour ce faire, on a retenu Philosophiques, l’organe de la Société de philosophie du Québec, une revue qui n’avait jamais encore fait l’objet d’une étude fouillée.L’examen détaillé de son contenu procède en trois étapes. Comme les études sur l’évolution récente des idées en philosophie québécoise ne sont (...) pas légion, on rappelle d’abord les résultats d’une recherche en ce domaine réalisée avec les moyens traditionnels de la philosophie (Simard 1998). Puis on soumet les articles de la revue à un double traitement computationnel, l’un de style plutôt déductif, l’autre plus inductif. Enfin, les résultats de cette double analyse sont comparés avec ceux de 1998, dont l’étude était menée sur un corpus composé d’ouvrages. Le constat est clair : l’analyse assistée par ordinateur complète et précise le résultat de recherches plus classiques. On conclut avec quelques perspectives sur les humanités numériques. (shrink)

Restreinte à confronter la question de la souffrance et la question de Dieu, l'étude se développe en quatre parties. La première rappelle comment l'ancienne justification de Dieu a réduit le mal subi ou mal être à un mal agir, un non être, un mieux être. La seconde montre comment une attention vive à la souffrance s'y oppose terme à terme. Celle-ci constitue un mal originaire. Elle présente une forme d'être. Elle n'entre en aucun ordre universel. La troisième partie suit quelques (...) tentatives de la théologie philosophique contemporaine, en particulier avec la pensée du process, pour échapper à une impossible conciliation entre la bonté et la puissance de Dieu. La dernière partie reprend, dans l'horizon de la souffrance ; la foi chrétienne dans l'Esprit, le Christ et le Père : Dieu est contre, avec et par-delà la souffrance.. Si la faiblesse de Dieu ne saurait ressusciter l'homme, Dieu, dans l'absolue liberté de son origine, demeure libre pour aimer et libre de se limiter.Forced to confront the question of suffering and the question of God, this study is developped in four parts. The first part recalls how the old justification of God reduced suffering undergone or ill-being to ill-doing, non being or improved being. The second part shows how when we pay careful attention to suffering, we discover it is opposed to all those definitions and constitutes an original evil. It presents a form of being. It does not enter into any universal order. The third part follows some attempt of contemporaneous philosophical theology, in particular with the concept of process, to escape from an impossible conciliation between goodness and the power of God. The last part takes up, in the horizon of suffering, Christian faith in the Spirit, Christ, and the Father : God is against, with, and beyond suffering. If the weakness of God does not know how to resuscitate man, God, in the absolute freedom of its origin, remains free to love and free to limit itself. (shrink)

Les historiens grecs se sont préoccupés des actions (praxeis) humaines dans l’ordre politique et militaire. Pourtant, la conception qu’ils se font de la justice (dikè, dikaion) – à laquelle ils rapportent plus ou moins directement l’ordre du monde et le cours des choses – comme d’un mécanisme de stricte rétribution et de rétablissement des équilibres rompus; leurs définitions de la nature humaine qui permettent de verser tout débordement au compte de ce qui n’est plus totalement ou plus du tout humain; (...) enfin, la manière dont ils construisent leur autorité d ‘historien : non par l’établissement critique des faits, mais grâce à l’identification de leur point de vue avec celui de la puissance de justice organisatrice du monde, sont autant d’obstacles à une problématisation éthique de l’action. Les notions d’équité, de bienveillance à l’égard des êtres humains, de mesure, de pitié interviennent bien dans leurs jugements, mais finissent toujours par se mouler dans le cadre de pensée dominant de la justice rétributive. Die Menschenrechte und das humanitäre Völkerrecht haben eines gemeinsam: das Ziel des Schutzes und der Absicherung der Menschen. Das Verhältnis zwischen ihnen ist dabei nach wie vor umstritten und nicht abschließend geklärt. Hierfür gibt es vielfältige Gründe. Sie reichen von der geschichtlichen Entwicklung beider Rechtsgebiete über rechtsdogmatisch voneinander abweichende Ansichten bis hin zu Fragen des Verhältnisses im engeren Sinne. Die Autorinnen und Autoren dieses Bandes nähern sich aus verschiedenen disziplinären Perspektiven der Zuordnung der beiden Rechtskorpora und ihrer jeweiligen Geltungsbereiche an.
