Concepts, such as death, life and spirit cannot be known in their quintessential nature, but can be defined in accordance with their effects. In fact, those who think within the mode of pragmatism and Cartesian logic have ignored the metaphysical aspects of these terms. According to Islam, the entity that moves the body is named the soul. And the aliment of the soul is air. Cessation of breathing means leaving of the soul from the body. Those who agree on the (...) diagnosis of brain death may not able to agree unanimously on the rules that lay down such diagnosis. That is to say, there are a heap of suspicions regarding the diagnosis of brain death, and these suspicions are on the increase. In fact, Islamic jurisprudence does not put provisions, decisions on suspicious grounds. By virtue of these facts, it can be asserted that brain death is not absolute death according to Islamic sources; for in the patients diagnosed with brain death the soul still has not abandoned the body. The issue of whether the recitation of the original text of the Holy Quran has a worship value or not is an ancient debate that still maintains its current status. The article will primarily uses scanning method and an evaluation will be made at the end, with the aim of revealing that recitation and listening to the Quran will not go unrewarded. For this reason, the study addresses the importance of the believer's occupation with the Quran in the forms of (...) reading, listening and understanding in terms of good deeds (ḥasanāt). In order to respond to the criticisms directed by certain circles, especially at actions such as khatm (entirely recitation of the Quran in Ara-bic), and to clarify the issue, more emphasis has been placed on reciting and listening in the study. In the Quran, man's words and actions are basically grouped into two main groups, with concepts such as “ḥasanât/sayyiât”, “ṣāliḥāt/sayyiāt”, “khayr/sharr”, “ṭayyibāt/khabīsāt” and “ma‘rūf/munkar”. While there should be no hesitation that reciting the Quran will fall into the first group of the aforementioned concept groups; there are those who say that reciting the Quran in Arabic (even without understanding) has no value or is unimportant, and that what matters is understanding its meaning. Since the Quran was revealed to be understood and applied to life, there may be some consistency in what this group cla-ims. However, the Quran is also a book of worship; recitation in prayer (ṣalāt) is obligatory for every believer, whether s/he knows the meaning of the chapter or verse s/he recites in prayer or not. There is no doubt that prayer will be included in the group of good deeds (ḥasanāt). Allah Al-mighty has declared that He will reward every good deed. In many verses where the word of ḥasanât is mentioned, it is also stated that good deeds (ḥasanāt) will eliminate evil deeds. As a result, regardless of whether it is inside or outside of prayer, if the Quran is recited with the intention of ḥasanāt/ṣāliḥāt/khayr/ṭayyibāt/ma‘rūf, knowing or not knowing its mea-ning, it will be good deeds for the reciter, and it is hoped that it will be a means for the forgiveness of his/her sins and that s/he will be rewarded. The aim of this study is the examination of the effect of virtual reality based imagery (VRBI) training programs on the shot performance and imagery skills of athletes and, and to conduct a comparison with Visual Motor Behavior Rehearsal and Video Modeling (VMBR + VM). In the research, mixed research method and sequential explanatory design were used. In the quantitative dimension of the study the semi-experimental model was used, and in the qualitative dimension the case study design was adopted. The (...) research participants were selected from athletes who were involved in our target sports: curling (n= 14), bowling (n= 13), and archery (n= 7). All participants were randomly assigned to VMBR + VM (n= 11), VRBI (n= 12), and Control (n= 11) groups through the “Research Randomizer” program. The quantitative data of the study was: the weekly shot performance scores of the athletes and the data obtained from the “Movement Imagery Questionnaire-Revised.” The qualitative data was obtained from the data collected from the semi-structured interview guide, which was developed by researchers and field experts. According to the results obtained from the study, there were statistically significant differences between the groups in terms of shot performance and imagery skills. VRBI training athletes showed more improvement in the 4-week period than the athletes in the VMBR + VM group, in terms of both shot performance and imagery skills. In addition, the VRBI group adapted to the imagery training earlier than the VMBR + VM group. As a result, it was seen that they showed faster development in shot performances. From these findings, it can be said that VRBI program is more efficient in terms of shot performance and imagery skills than VMBR + VM, which is the most used imaging training model. (shrink)

The concept of the Islamic state, which is one of the main debates of Islamism, was an important source of motivation for Islamist movements, especially during the cold war. The debates in this context mostly focus on how to establish a relationship between the secular character of the modern state and Islam. In this study, Wael B. Hallaq's book titled The Impossible State: Islam, Politics, and Modernity's Moral Predicament will be reviewed. The book keeps this discussion current and offers a (...) different perspective. Hallaq's main thesis reveals why an Islamic state is not possible within the modern paradigm. Hallaq bases his thesis on the paradigm difference between modern law and Islamic law. İslamcılığın temel tartışma konularından biri olan İslam devleti kavramı, özellikle soğuk savaş döneminde İslamcı hareketlerin önemli bir motivasyon kaynağıydı. Bu bağlamdaki tartışmalar daha çok modern devletin seküler karakteri ile İslam arasında nasıl bir ilişkinin kurulacağı üzerine odaklanılmaktadır. Bu çalışmada değerlendirilecek olan Wael B. Hallaq’ın İmkânsız Devlet çalışması bu tartışmayı hem canlı kılmakta hem de farklı bir perspektif sunmaktadır. Hallaq’ın temel tezi modern dönemde bir İslam devletinin niçin mümkün olmadığını ortaya koymaktadır. Bedir Savaşı Müslümanlar’ın Hz. Peygamber (a.s) önderliğinde yaptıkları, ganimet ve esir aldıkları ilk gazvedir. Bu gazveye dair teferruat Enfâl Sûresi’nin neredeyse tümüne teşmil edilmiştir. Söz konusu sûrede savaş öncesi, savaş esnasında ve savaştan sonra yaşananlar tafsilatlı bir şekilde ele alınmıştır. Çalışmamızı ilgilendiren esas konu bu savaşta ele geçen ganimetler ve esirlerdir. Mezkur durum, sûrenin 67 ve 68. âyetlerine konu edilmiştir. Müfessirlerin kâhir ekseriyeti esir alması sebebiyle Hz. Peygamber’in (a.s) 67. âyetteki itâba muhatap olduğu kanaatindedir. Yine çoğu müfessire göre 68. (...) âyet müminlere ganimetin helal kılınacağını, şayet bu hüküm olmasaydı esirlerden fidye almaları sebebiyle müminlere çok büyük bir azabın ineceğini ifade etmişlerdir. Fahreddîn er-Râzî (ö. 606/1210) zikredilen iki yorum ve benzeri yorumları tefsirinde ele almış ve eleştirmiştir. Müfessire göre Hz. Peygamber (a.s) esir almamış ve esir alınmasını emretmemiştir. Dolayısıyla 67. âyetin muhatabı değildir. Âyetin muhatabı ganimet alma düşüncesiyle henüz savaş devam ederken esir almakla uğraşan sahabeden bazılarıdır. Aynı şekilde, müminlere ganimetin helal kılınacağı hükmü olmasaydı müminlerin almış oldukları fidye sebebiyle azaba müstehak olacağı yorumu da eleştiriye açıktır. Zira bir fiilden nehyetmeden ona ceza verilemez. Esirlerden fidye almanın haram olduğuna dair akli veya şer’î herhangi bir delil yoktur. Dolayısıyla söz konusu yorum isabetli görünmemektedir. The Tafsīr al-Muqātil (d. 150/767) is the oldest available complete commentary text. In this respect, it has been a focus of attention. In this tafsīr, the references to the Battle of Badr in the explanation of some Makkī surahs are remarkably numerous. Badr was the first war that the Prophet made with the polytheists of Makkah, and it took place in the second year of the migration to Madīna (A. H. 2). The polytheists were far superior to the Muslims in (...) terms of both equipment and numbers. Therefore, the success achieved in this expedition meant a lot not only in terms of survival but also in terms of morale of Muslims. Details of this war are included in Surah Anfāl, and various aspects of it are referred to in other Madanī surahs. It is not difficult to understand the mention of such an important war in Madanī surahs. However, the references to the Battle of Badr -which has not yet taken place- in the commentary of the Makkī surahs, are particularly challenging. In this tafsīr, 66 verses of various Makkī surahs are explained through the Battle of Badr. This study was carried out in order to reveal the background of the Badr references of the Makkī surahs in Muqātil tafsīr. Muqātil stands out in the Hadith in terms of reliability, and in the Kalām as a widely discussed personality with his various views. Although he has been criticized from various aspects of his Tafsīr, it is generally considered a great authority. His work is easy to understand; it combines narration and insight. The similar of every possible verse has been given. The author's mastering at the Arabic language showed itself in the words of the Qur’ān. Almost no words remained unexplained. Muqātil is closely related to the Arabic language that had been in effect in the era of revelation, and he generally carried out his tafsīr activities by considering the era of revelation. In Muqātil's view of tafsīr, no verse is independent from the experiences of the period, and each verse gains meaning with its context. In his tafsīr, Muqātil draws a view of Badr without alternatives. While other tafsīrs include other achievements of Muslims in addition to Badr, such as the victory of the Battle of the Ditch and the conquest of Makkah, in the tafsīr of Muqātil the difference of Badr as the biggest blow against the polytheists of Makkah is clearly stated. It may not be very convincing to explain his insistence on Badr as random touches and sometimes anachronistic mistakes, given his skill in tafsīr and his command of the Qur’ān in terms of both content and language. Badr stands as a conscious choice, not a mistake in Muqātil. As it can be seen in examining the verses, the forward-looking statements present in the majority of the verses; this emphasis also prepared the ground for Muqātil's explanations. In any case, Muqātil sometimes did not care about falling into historical inconsistency. If we exclude these 5 verses, which can be explained with Badr although they are Makkī, the attitudes of other commentators regarding the emphasis of Badr in the Makkī verses in the remaining 61 verses are as follows: al-Ṭabarī (d.310/923) included the views pointing to Badr in only 3 of the 61 verses in his tafsīr. This shows us that the emphasis of Badr in the Makkī verses was not generally adopted by other early commentators except Muqātil. Because in al-Ṭabarī's tafsīr, the views on tafsīr from the era of Aṣ-ṣaḥābah (the Companions), Tābiʿūn (the second generation following the Companions) and Tābiʿū al-Tābʿīn (the third generation) are mentioned together with isnad (the chain of reporters), except for Muqātil and al-Kalbī. al-Zad̲j̲d̲j̲ād̲j̲ (d. 311/923), who was contemporary of Ṭabarī, included Badr in only two of the 61 verses in his philological tafsīr. In other words, al-Zad̲j̲d̲j̲ād̲j̲ is on a very different line from Muqātil regarding Badr. al-Māturīdī (d. 330/944) included Badr among other explanations in only 4 of the 61 verses in his tafsīr, and did not mention Muqātil's view even among the possible meanings of the other verses. al-Rāzī (d. 606/1210) included Badr in 10 of 61 verses among other explanations. In the remaining 51 verses, he did not find it necessary to mention Muqātil's view along with other possibilities. Apparently, al-Rāzī, like others, did not consider Muqātil's explanations reasonable. Nevertheless, Razi was the commentator who gave greater place to the Badr emphasis of Muqātil in his tafsīr. In this case, how can the passion for Badr, seen in the Muqātil tafsīr, be explained? We think it would be correct to seek the reasons of Muqātil's -sometimes reasonable, sometimes inappropriate, and sometimes anachronistic- explanations of Badr in the importance he gave to this expedition and in the method of relying on concrete data in the interpretation of the Qur’ānic verses. In his view of tafsīr, no verse is independent of the experiences of the period. (shrink)

Bu çalışmanın amacı İbn Kesîr’in (öl. 774/1373) el-Bidâye ve’n-nihâye isimli tarih çalışmasının siyer bölümünde Sahîhayn hadislerini muhteva açısından tenkidinin araştırılması ve tahlilidir. Çalışmamızın konusu ise İbn Kesîr’in mezkûr eserinde yirmi Sahihayn hadisini Kur’ân-ı Kerîm (3 hadis), akıl (1 hadis), icmâ (1 hadis), sahih hadisler (7 hadis) ve sağlam târihî bilgilere (8 hadis) uygunluk/aykırılık kıstaslarını kullanarak tenkidi ve on dört hadiste izah getiremediği yanlışların birer hata olduğunu kaydetmesidir. İbn Kesîr’in incelenen hadislerin muhteva tenkidine müsait bir hâle gelmesine yol açan râvi tasarruflarına (...) dair verdiği bilgiler ayrıca kıymetlidir. Bu çalışmanın kapsamını oluşturan hadislerden yedi tanesi hem Sahîh-i Buhârî hem Sahîh-i Müslim, altı tanesi sadece Sahîh-i Buhârî, yedi tanesi de sadece Sahîh-i Müslim’de yer almaktadır. Hem Sahîh-i Buhârî hem Sahîh-i Müslim’de yer alan hadisler Hayber’de müt‘a nikahının yasaklanışı, Rasulullah’ın (s.a.v.) umre ve hacca niyeti, Hz. Peygamber’in gümüş yüzüğü atması, kıblenin değişimi haberinin Kubâ’ya ertesi sabah ulaşması, namazda konuşma yasağının zamanı, ye’cûc ve me’cûc’un seddinin delinmesi ve Hz. Peygamber’in (s.a.v.) miras bırakmaması konulu hadislerdir. Sadece Sahîh-i Buhârî’de geçen hadisler isranın vahiy gelmesinden önce vukuu, Hamrâülesed seferine katılanların sayısı, Sa‘d b. Araştırmamızın yöntemi kaynak taraması ve sonuçların diğer şarihlerinkiyle mukayeseli tahlilidir. Araştırmamızın sonucunda eleştirilen hadislerin büyük bir kısmında İbn Kesîr’in değerlendirmelerinin İbn Hacer ve Nevevî gibi muhaddislerinkinden farklı olduğu görülmüştür. Çalışmamızın önemi İbn Kesîr’in tenkitlerinin muhaddislerin senedin sıhhatinin metnin sıhhatini temin etmeyeceğine dair tespitlerinin uygulamadaki somut delillerini oluşturmasıdır. Kısaca İbn Kesîr’in, eserine güçlü tenkit zihniyetini, özgün görüşlerini ve geniş ilmî birikimini başarıyla yansıttığı görülmektedir. (shrink)

Fiillerin Allah’a isnadı (halku ef’âli ibâd/halku a’mâlu’l-ibâd) meselesi Kelâm literatürünün bir başlığı olarak birçok defa ele alınmıştır. Fakat bu çalışmaların hepsinde konu, Kelâm ekollerinin yaklaşımlarının değerlendirilmesi çerçevesini aşamamıştır. Konuyu itikâdî bir mesele veçhesiyle ele alan Kelâm ekollerinin zıddına bu çalışma, beşer fiillerinin Allah’a isnadını kendi doğal zemininde okuma amacını taşımaktadır. Makalede, meselenin Kur'ân dili ve bağlamı içindeki ilk anlamı tespit edilmeye çalışılmıştır. Çalışma, beşere ait bazı fiillerin Allah’a isnat edilmesinin Kur’ân dilinin kendine has üslûbu olduğu, fakat bu üslûbun çoğu zaman (...) göz ardı edildiği iddiasındadır. Çalışma boyunca bu üslûp ortaya konulmuş, konu, söz konusu üslûbun en bariz örneği olan Enfâl sûresi 17. Ayet çerçevesinde incelenmiştir. Ayetin nüzûl bağlamında Bedir savaşı yer almakta ve ayette Allah, Rasûlü’nün “atma”, ashabın ise “öldürme” fiillerini kendine izâfe etmektedir. “Öldürdüğünüzde siz öldürmediniz Allah öldürdü; attığın zaman da sen atmadın, Allah attı” meâlindeki söz konusu ayet, irade ve kader bağlamında referans olarak kullanılan ayetlerdendir. Bu çalışmada, ayetin kullanıldığı zemin ile nüzûl zemininin ne derece uyumlu olduğu ve ayet hakkında yapılan yorumlarda bağlama sadık kalınıp kalınmadığı irdelenmiştir. Bu irdeleme neticesinde Tefsir kaynaklarının pek çoğunun da mevcut Kelâmî tartışmalarda taraf olduğu, bu sebeple çoğu zaman Tefsir kaynaklarının da Tefsir ilminin parametrelerine aykırı yorumlarda bulunduğu tespit edilmiştir. Tefsir kavramının anlam alanı “ilk mananın tespiti”dir. Öyleyse te’vilden önce tefsir mutlaka ortaya konulmalıdır. Ayetin Kelâm ekollerinin elinde şekillenen manası te’vil olarak değerlendirilebilir, fakat bu mananın “tefsir” olduğu iddia edilmemelidir. Her dinî metnin, hatta her beşerî-edebî metnin olduğu gibi Kur'ân’ın da kendine has bir dili ve anlam örgüsü vardır. Doğru anlamın tespiti için tefsirin parametrelerinden biri olan metin dışı bağlama riâyete ilaveten Kur’ân’ın kendine has bu dili de dikkate alınmalıdır. Söz konusu bu dil bazen belağatla da izah edilebilen fakat çoğu zaman belağatın sınırlarını da aşan bir üslûba sahiptir. Kur'ân dilinin en temel vasfı Allah merkezli (teosentrik) bir anlatıma sahip olmasıdır. Bu üslûp, ayetleri salt lafızcı bir okumayla tefsir etmeyi engelleyen en büyük unsurdur. Kur’ân üslûbunda kurallar mütekellimin kudretindedir. Bundan dolayı kimi zaman ihbâr görünümlü bir yapı aslen inşânın, inşâ görünümlü bir yapı da ihbârın sınırlarına girebilmektedir. Makalede, söz konusu ayetteki ihbâr görünümünün aslen müminleri “itap” içerikli inşâî bir yapı olduğu iddia edilmiş yani “Öldürdüğünüzde siz öldürmediniz Allah öldürdü; attığın zaman da sen atmadın, Allah attı” cümlesinin bilinmeyen bir durumu haber vermediği söylenmiştir. Âyetin bağlamında Bedir zaferi sonrası sahabenin bazısının, insanın eylemleri üzerindeki Allah iradesi ve inâyetini göz ardı ettiği görülmektedir. Âyetteki bu üslûpla, bilinen, fakat gâlibiyet sevinciyle unutulan ya da ihmal edilen bir durum hatırlatılmış, ashap uyarılmıştır. Arap dilinde ikaz-uyarı cümleleri ise inşâ kategorisindedir. Çalışma, çoğunlukla kelâmî tartışmaların zemininde tefsir edilen âyet için Kur'ân üslûbunu merkeze alan alternatif bir okuma teklif etmektedir. (shrink)

Kur’an’ın anlamını doğru tespit ve te’vil etmek çabasında kullanılacak araçlardan biri de nüzûl vasatı ile esbâb-ı nüzûl rivayetlerine vukûfiyet ve bunları doğru tahlil etmek için isabetli bir yaklaşımı benimsemektir. Âyetlerin tefsirinde sahip olduğumuz kanaatlerin ve açıklamaların birçoğu esbâb-ı nüzûl rivayetlerine dayanmaktadır. Bu rivayetlerin Kur’an’ın muhtevasına, hadis usulüne, rivayet kalıplarına, siyerle uyumuna göre değerlendirilmesi gerektiği şeklinde görüşler serdedilmiştir. Mesela Medineli Yahudilerden Ka’b b. Eşref’in Bedir sonrasında öldürüldüğü kabul edilmekle birlikte ismi bu tarihten çok sonra nazil olan ayetlerin te’vilinde konuyla ilgili (...) rivayetler nakledilmektedir. Tarihsel açıdan bu çelişkili durum esbâb-ı nuzûl rivayetlerinin tarihî vakıa ile uyumunu araştırmanın önemini göstermektedir. Bu makalede yukarıda zikrettiğimiz hususları Ka’b b. Eşref örneği üzerinden ele alarak, kaynaklardaki bilgileri analitik olarak değerlendirmeye çalıştık. Sonuç olarak konuyla ilgili diğer tartışmalara girmeden tarihî bakış açısıyla rivayetleri tarihe ve zamana uyum açısından değerlendirerek, selefin kastı doğru anlaşılmadığı ve tarihi tutarlılığa yeteri kadar dikkat edilmediği için isminin vefatından sonra nazil olan birçok ayetin esbab-ı nüzûlünde zikredildiğini tespit ettik. Kelâm âlimleri “mûcize” kavramını iki farklı şekilde tarif etmişlerdir. Bunlardan ilkinde mûcize “Peygamber olduğunu ileri süren kimsenin elinde, onun doğruluğunu kanıtlamak için meydana gelen hârikulâde olay” şeklinde tanımlanmıştır. İkinci tarife göre ise mûcize: “Peygamberlik iddia eden bir zâtın elinde, inkârcılara meydan okuduğu bir sırada, kendisini doğrular mâhiyette, başkalarının benzerini yapamadıkları, Allah tarafından yaratılan, olağanüstü olay”lara verilen addır. Tanımlardan da anlaşılacağı üzere “mûcize” kelimesiyle genel olarak “hissî mûcize”lere işaret edilmektedir. Zaten erken dönemden itibaren görünür olmaya başlayan İcazu’l-Kur’ân çalışmalarını dışarıda tutarsak “mûcize” (...) teriminin kelâmî metinlerde yer almaya başladığı IV. yy. dan itibaren genelde Hz. Peygamber’in (sav) hissî mucizelerinin bulunup bulunmağı temelinde tartışmalar yaşanmıştır. Hatta Kur’ân’da yer verilen geçmiş peygamberlere ait hissî mucize örneklerinden hareketle mesele zaman zaman peygamberlerin hissî mucizelerinin birbiriyle yarıştırılması boyutuna kadar taşınmıştır. Tüm bu tartışma safahatında geçmişte ve günümüzde ihmal edilen, gözden kaçırılan ya da yeteri kadar değer verilmeyen -bizce en önemli ve bugün de gözle görülür, dost, düşman, insaf sahibi herkesin takdirle karşıladığı- mûcize örneği ise Hz. Peygamber’in topyekûn dinî ve siyasî alanda sergilediği insanları dönüştürme kabiliyetidir. Kaldı ki Hz. Peygamber’in bu türden sergilediği mûcize örnekleri geçmişte bir noktada yaşanmış ve misyonunu tamamlayarak tarihin dehlizlerinde kaybolmuş da değildir. Aksine bu dönüştürme ameliyesi nebevî prensiplerin ikâmesi ile asr-ı saâdette ve sonrasında olduğu gibi günümüzde ve kıyamete kadar devam edecek olan zaman dilimlerinde de örnekliğini sürdürmeye ve fonksiyonunu icra etmeye devam edecektir. Hz. Peygamber’in başta Bedir Savaşı ve Hudeybiye Antlaşması olmak üzere birçok siyasî alanda yine bireysel ve toplumsal olarak içinde yaşadığı toplumun yüceltilip yükseltilmesinde olağanüstü bir başarı sağladığı yadsınamaz bir gerçektir. Elde ettiği başarıların kendisini hiçbir şekilde asıl hedefinden, tevhid merkezli yaşantısından uzaklaştırmaması, günün sonunda yine “rabbine şükreden bir kul” vasfını koruması onun şahsî kemâlinin ve vahye muhatap oluşunun en büyük göstergelerindendir. John William Draper (ö. 1882) gibi Batılı bilim insanlarına şu türden cümleleri kurduran en mühim sâik de kuşkusuz Hz. Peygamber’in sözünü ettiğimiz o eşsiz dönüştürme kabiliyetidir: “Tüm insanlar arasında, insan ırkına en fazla tesir eden kişi, Justinianus'un (ö. 565) ölümünden dört yıl sonra Mekke’de, Arabistan'da doğan kişidir. The subject of this study is the naḳīḍa (opposing) type of poetry competitions between the Meccan poet Ḍirār b. al-Khaṭṭāb (d. 12/633) and the Muslim poet Kaʿb b. Mālik (d. 50/670) from Medina during the Battle of Badr, when the Muslims and the polytheists confronted for the first time. The problem is the questioning of the approaches reflected in the naḳīḍa poems, which were used as a means of propaganda and psychological superiority by the Muslims and polytheists during the Battle (...) of Badr. Naḳīḍa poems, the subject of the study, are important for getting to know the two opposite understandings closely and forming an opinion about the naḳīḍa poems sung during the era of the Prophet Muhammad. Although there are some recent studies on naḳīḍa poems from the era of the Prophet, these studies lacked details and only mentioned general features. The interesting approaches and fine details reflected in the verses, such as Ḍirār b. al-Khaṭṭāb's claims aiming to distract attention and discredit the Muslims of Medina in the face of the unexpected defeat of the Meccan army at Badr that the Battle of Badr was a tribal war between the Meccans and the Medinans, makes this study prominent. On the other hand, Kaʿb b. Mālik's verses reflect the approaches bearing traces of the Islamic faith and draw attention to the fact that the battle was between faith and unbelief and the Muslims of Medina were proud of their support for the Messenger of Allah. Undoubtedly, Meccan immigrants participated in the Battle of Badr along with the Muslims of Medina. Even so, Kaʿb b. Mālik does not mention Muhājirs (immigrants) in his verses. This suggests that Kaʿb b. Mālik may have concentrated on responding to the allegations made by Ḍirār b. al-Khaṭṭāb. Document analysis, one of the qualitative method techniques, was used in the study. First, a literature review was conducted to better understand the subject, and the studies related to the field were briefly mentioned. Then, summary information about the concept and background of naḳīḍa is provided. Two call-and-response poems between the Jāhiliyyah period poet Imruʾ al-Qays (d. 545) and ʿAbīd b. al-Abraṣ (d. 555) are included as an example for the first phases of naḳīḍa poems. Then, brief information about the Meccan poet Ḍirār b. al-Khaṭṭāb and the Medinan poet Kaʿb b. Mālik are presented. After the background information, two naḳīḍa poems of both poets were examined and analyzed, and the differences in the Battle of Badr were pointed out. Concepts that are common in the eulogies of the Jāhiliyyah period, such as nobility, being a master warrior, and generosity, draw attention in Ḍirār b. al-Khaṭṭāb's verses. On the other hand, in his verses Ka'b b. Mālik uses terms and expressions brought by Islam such as the Messenger of Allah, there is no Lord but Allah, unbelievers, Hell, and hellfire. In the verses of both poets, there are clues about the commonly used battle orders and war equipment of the period. The opinions are summarised in the conclusion part of the study. (shrink)
