Abstract

This chapter explores information technology’s (IT) transformative role in fostering societal growth and addressing challenges across various sectors, including education, entrepreneurship, healthcare, and rural development. By harnessing digital tools such as big data, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital platforms, IT promotes social inclusion, enhances access to resources, and supports sustainable development efforts globally. The study is closely aligned with key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), notably Quality Education (SDG 4), Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8), and Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions (SDG 16). This chapter uses theoretical frameworks and real-world case studies to demonstrate how IT empowers marginalised communities, stimulates political engagement, and fosters digital entrepreneurship, particularly in underserved regions. Additionally, the study delves into significant challenges such as digital inequality, cybersecurity risks, and ethical considerations surrounding AI and big data. It highlights the importance of cooperation among policymakers, technologists, and civil society to ensure the ethical and equitable implementation of IT for sustainable societal transformation.
