Abstract
The issue of nuclear weapons has dominated the international debate on peace, security and stability of both the nuclear weapon and nonweapon states, despite the conclusion of the nuclear nonproliferation treaty in 1968. India's approach towards the question of nuclear weapons, prior to the May 1974 peaceful nuclear explosion in Pokhran, was undoubtedly idealistic. The book entitled India's Nuclear Deterrence Vs. Disarmament examines and analyses the compulsions, commitments and constraints encountered by India, possessing nuclear weapons and its delivery systems, yet not a nuclear state under the definition of the NPT.
