Abstract

The present century has been steeped in many events that have influenced the destiny of the peoples of our planet in one way or another. But among those events there has been none to match the Great October Socialist Revolution in its historical role and lasting political significance. "The victory of October," it is emphasized, in the resolution of the Central Committee of the CPSU "On the Sixtieth Anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution" [O 60-i godovshchine Velikoi Oktiabr'skoi sotsialisticheskoi revoliutsii], "was the major event of the twentieth century, and fundamentally changed the course of development of all humankind."
