Abstract

This chapter examines the proposals articulated by various sectors of Brazilian society during the public consultation convened by the Brazilian Data Protection Authority (Autoridade Nacional de Proteção de Dados, ANPD) concerning the establishment of a regulatory sandbox for artificial intelligence (AI). By drawing on the insights contributed by these diverse stakeholders, this analysis highlights points of both consensus and contention regarding the risks and opportunities associated with AI development and adoption in Brazil, a leading economy in Latin America and a significant actor in the Global South. Through this lens, the chapter underscores the complex interplay between technological innovation, regulatory frameworks, and socio-economic factors, offering a nuanced perspective on how AI governance is being shaped in a rapidly evolving Latin American context.
