Abstract

As a thoroughgoing virtue ethicist, Aquinas offers an account of the human good given in terms of excellences of character. He adumbrates this account within the framework of a natural law theory, appealing along the way to a highly distinctive account of our moral sense, which he terms synderesis. Strikingly all of the core elements of Aquinas’s ethical theory have enjoyed renewed interest and spirited defense in contemporary moral theory.
