Abstract

Enzo Paci’s phenomenology of temporal self-correction constitutes a distinct Italian contribution to twentieth-century thought: a model in which experience, history, science, and community continually revise their own conditions. Centered on Tempo e relazione and Funzione delle scienze, with Il senso delle parole extending this logic into language and education, the article reconstructs Paci’s vocabulary of return, correction, rectification, renewal, and autocorrezione as a phenomenology of recursive openness. Temporality thus becomes the operation of relation: a field in which consciousness, praxis, and language sustain themselves by returning to the effects of their acts. Read between Husserlian phenomenology, Marxian praxis, and the mid-century problem of cybernetics, Paci’s thought gives recurrence an ethical rather than merely formal significance. Meaning, in his account, survives only through openness to correction, giving phenomenology a historical orientation.
