Abstract

This book explains and defends concept auditing, a procedure that explores the obligation that a philosopher has to honor the existing meanings of everyday terms and conceptions such as knowledge, truth, justice, fairness, beauty, or the like. Nicholas Rescher explains how philosophers’ treatments of a topic relates to our established presystematic understanding of the issues involved and how their deliberations should relate to the prevailing conception of the matter being discussed.
