Abstract

Artificial IntelligenceArtificial Intelligence (AI) (AI) has undergone significant advancements in recent years, showing its potential impact on political decisions and state modernizationState modernization efforts. The integration of AI into democratic governance systems appears inevitable, given the collection of vast amounts of citizen dataData analysis and its utility. The capacity of AI to analyze extensive datasets unveils hitherto inaccessible insights, revolutionizing knowledge acquisition. Ultimately, AI facilitates informed political decision-making, resource management and enhances citizens’ quality of life. Clarifying the mentioned points, this article presents two cases to explain the strategies adopted by the Portuguese government to pioneer innovative policies and services. Through empirical investigation, we shown the AI technologies developed in PortugalPortugal, which enables a comprehensive understanding of how the modernization of state institutions facilitates political decision-makingPolitical decision-making while addressing citizens’ needs. Prospective research endeavors can explore citizen feedback concerning the identified technologies, discerning the most pertinent tools from a political and social standpoint.
