Abstract

Born in India, Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak finished her secondary education at St. John’s Diocesan Girls’ Higher Secondary School. She graduated from the University of Calcutta in 1959. Later, she migrated to the USA and enrolled in Cornell University’s graduate English program in 1961. Spivak is a renowned name in the world of contemporary literary and cultural studies, postcolonial studies, feminist theory, and diaspora writing. She speaks up for the marginalized people who are often silenced by dominant discourses. By exploring how diasporic individuals negotiate their sense of self and belonging, her work offers a deeper understanding of the complex and traumatic experiences of minorities. Her diasporic background shapes her thoughts and ideas, which lead her to challenge the western discourse.
