Abstract

What draws together the gathering of the various entities presented in the book is none other than the event of hospitality. These entities all act as hosts, while simultaneously being hosted: hosted by the economy of art, they host the utterly Other—the rav. As such, these entities point to another way of thinking about the work undertaken in the work of art. This thinking is related to the event of hospitality as it is being eventuated within the work. What is at stake is a new aesthetic criterion that ties the greatness of the artwork to the extent of the hospitality eventuated within it. The time has come to call for the formation of a new discourse, which will be dedicated to hospitality in art. It is thus that aesth-ethics will replace ethics as prima philosophia.
