The Roles of School Counsellors in Reducing School Dropout amongst Primary School Pupils in Onitsha Educational Zone
Abstract
This study adopted a descriptive Survey research design to ascertain the roles of school counselors in reducing school dropout rate amongst pupils in the primary school. The study was carried out in the Onitsha Educational Zone of Anambra State. The population of the study consisted of 125 school counselors offering counseling services in primary schools in the study area. The total population formed the sample for the study. Three research questions were formulated to guide the study. Data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation. Among the findings, it was revealed that, with the provision of informative services; the dropout rate among the pupils could be reduced. Based on the findings, recommendations were made.
