Abstract

Located in the debate on the crisis of democracy, the article focuses on analyses that trace its roots to a crisis of financialized capitalism. It aims to advance the argument that, among such analyses, there are efforts to reconstruct the crisis theory developed by Jürgen Habermas in the 1970s, undertaken by the distinct works of Wolfgang Streeck and Nancy Fraser. It seeks to interpret these reconstructions by presenting the arguments from Legitimation Crisis (1973) by Habermas, and also evaluating the similarities, differences, and advancements found in a selection of texts by Streeck and Fraser in relation to the original theory.
