Abstract

In this chapter, I will examine Tanabe Hajime’s interpretation of quantum mechanics and compare it with Ernst Cassirer’s. To do so, I will engage with the concept of the dialectics of nature, which is essential for understanding Tanabe’s project. Specifically, I will argue that Tanabe’s interpretation is epistemologically sound, despite its reliance on a framework that emphasizes a broader metaphysical evaluation of the theory. Next, I will analyze Cassirer’s reading, demonstrating that despite his more neutral stance, his work still contains ontological and dialectical insights. Methodologically, I will apply Klaus Hentschel’s criteria for evaluating philosophical interpretations of physical theories, supplementing this approach with an investigation into how science influences the formation of philosophical systems.
